MHS Math Department Classroom Policies:
The following rules are designed to create consistency throughout the mathematics department as it pertains to the following issues:
Lateness to class
Electronic devices in class
Food and Drink in the classroom
Academic dishonesty
A. Students will be expected to arrive to classes prior to the sounding of the bell. Any time after that window will be considered late. You will receive two warnings followed by a teacher detention. Any subsequent infractions will receive an additional detention and administration referral.
B. Use of electronic devices (including, but not limited to, cell phones, smartwatches, airpods/headphones) is not permitted during the class period unless instructed by the teacher. The use of said devices will result in a warning and then teacher detention. Phones will be placed in a pouch at the front of the room before every class in an assigned location, and be picked up at the end of class.
C. Light snacks and drinks are allowed in the classroom. Class time may not be used to retrieve/buy food from the cafeteria, cafe, or vending machines. Eating in the class is a privilege. If you abuse it, you lose it. (Food is not an excuse for being late to class.)
D. Presenting work that is not your own is a clear violation of Methacton’s academic integrity policy. Violations of the policy will be met with significant grade deductions and additional disciplinary actions. Examples of academic integrity violations include, but are not limited to, using apps or websites that produce solutions, transcribing another student’s work, and exchanging exam questions and/or answers.
Detentions will be held independently by the teacher in their classroom. If you do not serve the assigned detention, an administrator referral will be written.
The first week of school will serve as an opportunity to get acclimated to the expectations listed above. Following that, any accrued warnings and detentions will remain for the duration of the year and will NOT reset at the beginning of each marking period or semester. Persistent offenses will be referred to the building level administrator for further punitive action.
