Mrs. Tyson

Welcome to the Reading Room

Hi! My name is Mrs. Julie Tyson and this is my 12th year as the reading specialist at Woodland Elementary. Before teaching here at Woodland, I taught kindergarten, first and second grade learning support for 3 years in the Upper Perkiomen School District. I see students for team time and help them become better readers. I also help with Kid Writing in kindergarten. I love Woodland Elementary and all of the amazing students and staff that we have here! When I'm not at school I love spending time with my family and friends. I have a three year old son, Beau, and my daughter, Veronica, is two. One of our favorite things to do together is read! Developing a love for reading begins at a very young age, and children's books are so much fun to read.

If your child comes to the reading room for team time, ask them if they have Mrs. Tyson! If they do and you have any questions or concerns please feel free to contact me:

Our reading room has many of wonderful teachers and instructional assistants:

  • Mrs. Maureen Stanko- Reading Specialist

  • Mrs. Kelly Reif- Instructional Intervention Specialist

  • Mrs. Wendy Raquet- Instructional Assistant

  • Mrs. Joan Roth- Instructional Assistant

One resource that we use at school and encourage parents to use at home is kidsa-z.com

It provides books for your child to read online that are on their reading level.

You can go to the website or use the app (Kids A-Z).

They should sign in using their homeroom teacher's username.

Your child can listen to the book be read aloud to them, then they can read the book on their own, and then answer questions about the book. They earn stars for their work and then can create a robot or a rocket by spending their stars.
