Activities & Clubs
Methacton High School offers many ways for students to get involved through clubs and activities. Below are some of the clubs and interest groups that have been offered in the past by the high school. Some clubs offer multiple leadership positions for students like President, Vice President, Secretary and Treasurer. Please contact the group's representative directly if you have any questions or would like more information. Students must email using their Methacton email.
All meeting times are at 2:30 pm unless stated otherwise. Some meeting locations are not included. Please contact the group directly for this information.
All incoming students will have an opportunity to learn more about the clubs and groups of interest, and sign up at the Activities Fair during Orientation.

Academic Decathlon
Faculty Sponsor: Mr. Outland
Academic Decathlon is the Premier Academic Competition in the country. We are looking for students who love to learn, love to read and love to compete! You will have the opportunity to win individual medals in each of the 10 events, as well as contributing to the team score to help us advance through the season toward the State Championship competition.

Anime Club

The Anime club here at Methacton is all about having fun and watching anime! This club is for anyone who enjoys watching and discussing anime. We usually hold parties as well as a yearly trip to Zenkicon but due to COVID-19 we have to fluctuate on what we can do. Anime club is an opportunity to make new friends and bond over anime and other shared interests!

Best Buddies

The mission of Best Buddies here at Methacton is to enhance the lives of people with intellectual disabilities by providing opportunities for one-to-one friendships and monthly outing within the community with their friends. Best Buddies also offers students a unique opportunity to develop leadership skills. With the support of school faculty and Best Buddies staff, students lead and direct the chapters in their schools.
Meetings:
Chapter Meetings – once per month
Typically, First Wed of every month from 2:20-3:00
One-to-one outings – Buddy Pairs are required to contact each other weekly and participate in 2 one-to-one outings/activities per month for a full academic year.
Group outings – a time for peer buddies, buddies and associate members to get together as a group for a social activity out in the community occurs at least once a month
Black Student Union (BSU)

The BSU is accepting and encouraging environment for student activists to express their beliefs about a variety of different topics.
“We want to start a dialogue on important issues in and around Methacton. We hope that by attending our meetings, you will be able to hear different perspectives on topics you may or may not have been open to discussing before. We believe that open-mindedness is the first stepping stone to creating real change."
“This club is not only for black students. Anyone and everyone is welcome to the table. We are not affiliated with BLM in any way shape or form. We are our own standalone organization.”

Biology Olympiad

USA Biology Olympiad is the premiere Biology competition for high school students in the United States and internationally. The mission of the club is to prepare students for the first stage of the exam process that takes place in the second semester of the school year. Our mission is accomplished by learning more about the study of life and living organisms through group meetings and independent research. The club's advisor is Mr. Del Rossi. Anyone can join the club, especially those who have an interest in Biology. Participation in USABO is recognized as exceptional to many colleges and universities and is a great way to further your knowledge in a prominent and expanding field of science.

Class Congress
Class of 2026
Faculty Sponsor: Heidi Alderfer and Denise McCrea
Class congress at Methacton High School includes the President, Vice President, Secretary and Treasurer. Though these 4 members must run for their positions and be voted in by the 2026 student body, ANY student from the class of 2026 may attend meetings. This group organizes fundraisers and events to fund major events for their grade in the future (prom, senior class trip, etc.). Information regarding the faculty sponsors, meeting times and location will be announced at a later date.
Element
Creative Arts Publishing Club
Faculty Sponsors: Ms. van der Kwast & Ms. McCauley
Element is Methacton High School's Creative Arts Magazine (similar to Apollo at Arcola). If you are an artist or creative writer, you can submit your work for publication, and you don't have to "join" to submit your work. However, we need club members to make design decisions such as theme and magazine layout, arrangement of art and writing, and edit art and writing. The club members are essential in making the publication possible! Join Element and contribute to the making of this amazing magazine!

Environmental Club

The goal of the environmental club it to educate students on how to lower their carbon footprint and better stewards of the environment. The club hosts fundraisers to raise awareness about current environmental issues. The club maintains the school pond, greenhouse, birdhouses, organizes school recycling and has adopted a road for trash pick up, just to name a few activities.

FBLA
Future Business Leaders of America
FBLA is a business club that has participated in business competitions at the regional, state and national levels. At our meetings, we discuss business concepts as well as preparation for the competitions. We also value community service as we volunteered at a soup kitchen in Norristown last February.
FBLA is looking for students who want to improve their business knowledge and broaden their experiences especially those who are contemplating majoring in a business field in college.

Family, Career and Community Leaders of America

FCCLA is looking for caring and passionate students to join our club! We do a variety of events throughout the year like the Halloween Costume Contest, Holiday Tea and Mr. Methacton. We also raise funds to support local families and organizations.

GSA
Gay/Straight Alliance
Gay-Straight Alliance (GSA) is a club that promotes acceptance and pride for the LGBTQ+ community at MHS.
Many teens feel alienated because their identity is not seen as "normal", GSA offers those kids a place to be reminded that they are not alone.
With ACKNOWLEGDMENT comes ACCEPTANCE, and with
ACCEPTANCE comes LOVE.
GSA wants to remind students that love is all anyone needs at the end of the day.

Girls Who Code

Our club focuses on encouraging young girls to pursue STEM interests in an effort to bridge the gender gap in STEM fields. We visit Skyview every month to teach girls various STEM topics and host a yearly fundraiser for all students grades K-6 (although this year those events and trips may be held virtually). We are looking for people who are interested in STEM and passionate about equalizing the disparity in STEM! Additionally, NO prior coding or STEM experience is needed and volunteer hours are provided for every trip to Skyview. Lastly, officer positions will be opening up following this year.

Habitat for Humanity

The Habitat for Humanity club holds multiple fundraisers throughout the school year to raise money to donate to Habitat for Humanity, which is a nonprofit organization that helps families build and improve their homes. Some fundraisers we plan on doing are a movie night, a gingerbread house building night, and an egg hunt! We also volunteer at a local Habitat for Humanity Restore, which is a donation center. Our club is looking for fun, caring, and passionate people to help us plan and run fundraisers to raise money for a great cause!

Helping Paws

Our club works with local animal organizations and communities to promote animal care, fundraise, and work together to create a fun environment for fellow animal lovers! Our major event of the year is organizing midterm/finals puppy visits for stress relief. We also volunteer at local animal shelters like Kitty Cottage and create fundraisers like our Helping Paws Calendar to raise money for animal shelters. We're looking for anyone passionate about the health and happiness of animals in the community, and we're even looking for future leadership positions to be filled!

KAC
Kids Against Crisis

About once a month we leave school around 1:35 and go to Gotwals Elementary School in Norristown where we make crafts and teach 1st graders new skills while making sure they are having fun! We arrive back at the HS around 3 and the bus ride is free! We also fundraise to help kids in need! If you can’t come to every trip, you can still join!
Medicine & Science Club

The Medicine and Science Club is for passionate students interested in any field of science. Our goal is to introduce members to the various field of sciences, benefiting those who want to pursue a career in STEM. We hold fundraisers such as donating to local hospitals through coffeehouses or hosting our annual STEM Day. The club also helps with networking as our guest speakers from many STEM professions come in and talk about their careers and give members valuable advice for the future.

Methacton Electric Car Club

The Methacton Electric Car Club has been in existence since 2001. We maintain, as well as continually develop two battery electric vehicles and an alternative energy box-truck. The club works with faculty sponsors, members of the community and local and national sponsors, to continually develop the car's technology and energy efficiency. Our overall, unified goal is to educate the public, one vehicle at a time, about sustainable energy. A recent project, completed by students added a 1000 Watt photovoltaic array to the garage. Our electric car runs on energy that we harness! Our latest project was converting a boxtruck to run on vegetable oil while making the inside of the truck a mobile classroom teaching about renewable energies. The truck also has solar panels on its roof that will be used to power the displays in the truck and charge the cars. We have displayed these vehicles at earth days, schools and the Philadelphia auto show. This year we will continue our work converting a Triumph Spitfire to battery electric. Anyone can join and no experience is necessary. Come and learn!

Mini Thon

Mini Thon is a club that is all about raising money to help kids in need fight against childhood cancer. To join Mini Thon you have to be a caring, passionate, and hardworking person who is willing to spend one day a week going to your meetings and actively participate is all of the fundraisers and events. Throughout the year there will be a few different fundraisers (wing night, kids night out, etc) but all of the hard work goes to the main event and goal of fundraising as much money as possible for the kids in need. This club is a lot of fun to be a part of and in the end is rewarding to see how all of your hard work has helped someone who really needs it.

Mock Trials
Faculty Sponsor: Mr. Phalen
Students participate in a state wide mock trial competition. Students chose roles as a witness or lawyer and prepare for a competition based on a new case each year. Lawyers create opening and closing statements and question witnesses. Witnesses have help prepare questions with their lawyers and prepare for a cross exam by lawyers from the opposing team. The competition takes place at the Norristown Court House and we go against private and public schools in Montgomery County.
Multicultural Young Activists

Our club revolves around social activism for both people and the planet. We have one topic to focus on each marking period. This year, we're planning on organizing virtual events (and in-person, if possible) to spread awareness and raise funds for the various causes we support. We're looking for dedicated students that are passionate about equity and reform!
NAHS
National Art Honor Society

The National Art Honor Society is an organization dedicated to enriching your community through art and art education. NAHS is a group of individuals who possess a true love of the arts and who are willing to give their time and efforts to provide artistic experiences for others. We are looking for members who are of good standing academically, and serve as role models for others to follow and are dependable, loyal, and faithful to the obligations and commitments asked of them. Enrollment in art classes is not required, but creative and open minds are encouraged to join!

Reading Olympics

The Reading Olympics team is looking for members who like to read or would like to start reading more. The team tries to collectively read as many books from the book list (25 titles) as possible in order to compete against other schools in the spring at the annual Reading Olympics event sponsored by the MCIU. The team in general is low commitment, but will offer opportunities that include working with a nonprofit to collect donated books for children in need or working with the library staff to select books for the library or other school-related events.

The Save-A-Life Club is focused on hosting fundraisers geared towards global humanitarian efforts. We also have community service opportunities for local enrichment. The Save-A-Life Club is a great way to have fun with a friend and be a part of making the world a better place.

Student Council is a club filled with students who best represent Methacton spirit and ideals. They are fun, outgoing people who are willing to lend a helping hand when need. TEAMS
Testing Engineering Aptitude in Mathematics & Science

Faculty Sponsor: OPEN
TEAMS (Tests of Engineering Aptitude, Mathematics, and Science) is an annual science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) competition that challenges high school student groups to work collaboratively to solve real-world engineering challenges, applying their math and science knowledge in practical, creative ways.
After participating in TEAMS, students increase their knowledge of engineering; feel more confident about participating in STEM activities; and increase their ability to work with others to solve complex problems.
Students that wish to further their knowledge in the STEM fields or pursue a degree from a STEM related field should join the club. The group typically meets once a week and has one competition in March. Once or Twice throughout the school year we will hold fundraisers to help support our national competitions, which take place in June.
The Multicultural Club

The Multicultural Club hosts fundraisers and volunteer opportunities throughout the year, contributing both local and large scale causes to empower communities. Our main activities include volunteering at the Cecil and bean's Soup Kitchen, making candles, hosting Kids' Night Out, and our International Festival at the end of the year. The Tribe

The Tribe Club is known for showing its strong support for Methacton’s sports teams and other student involvement activities. We run and coordinate the Tribe student section and social media platforms, plan tailgates and similar exciting events, design spirit wear for our club members and fans, and volunteer throughout the community to further spread our school’s spirit. This year we hope to become more inclusive than ever in providing our support to not only Methacton’s athletes but to a greater variety of our students and their accomplishments. All students are welcome to join the Tribe and bring their great ideas, especially those who live for cheering on their peers and boosting morale within our school.

WPG
Warriors Performance Group
Faculty Sponsor: Ms. Firzgerald and Ms. Naylor
WPG actively Celebrates and Promotes DIVERSITY, HUMAN RIGHTS, WOMEN'S RIGHTS, JUSTICE, and the HUMAN SPIRIT through passionate, energized, caring, sensitive activities throughout the year. We also have weekly discussions about these issues.
Traditionally, WPG participates in the Clothesline Project against sexual violence, Walk a Mile in Her Shoes, Laurel House 5K against domestic violence and a Dr. Martin Luther King's Day of Service and Performance. WPG also has a DANCE COMPANY that brings these issues to life through dance. WPG uses dance, theatre, poetry, and community service activities to help make the world a more just and peaceful place.
