Expectations

General Schedule: Class will meet 5 days a week on zoom. The zoom session will last anywhere between 15 and 40 minutes, depending on how much material we will cover.

Google Classroom: Google Classroom will still be the hub for where announcements are posted. Assignments will continue to be posted on the Google Classroom page each day. This is also where assignments should be turned in. Because we have moved to an online format for classes, I will not be accepting assignments via email unless it has been discussed prior to the due date we have to cover announcements I may have, and questions that students have. At the beginning of the class, I will explain what we will do and cover during the zoom session. At the end of the zoom session, I will then share what your homework assignment is. You will have until the next zoom session to turn in your homework on Google Classroom. This means that all assignments should be submitted on Google Classroom before our next zoom class meets. The link to join the Zoom class will be posted the morning of class meetings. The information will be shared via email, posted to Google Classroom, and posted to the class SCHOOL GRADING PLATFORM page. ZOOM CLASS INFORMATION SHOULD NOT BE DISTRIBUTED.

Tests, Quizzes, and Reading Quizzes: As you have already seen, quizzes have been moved to Google Form modality. Because classes will be meeting at different times and on different days, I reserve the right to administer quizzes with different questions for each class. Quizzes will NOT be harder or easier for any particular class(es). They will be randomized but will maintain the level of rigor that you would see if we were still present in the classroom.

Problems?

All assignments are due by the date/time given or HALF CREDIT will be given upon completion. A ZERO will be given for those activities where the answers have already been posted. If you have an extenuating circumstance, family emergency, computer difficulties, etc. please email me ahead of time NOT after the due date/time. PLAN AHEAD!

If experiencing difficulty with my assignments/websites that we use or if you have questions/need help - email me. Please note my office hours and expect a response at those times.

What kind of activities may possibly be included:

Below are examples of some websites and activities that we may be doing. The list will get longer as time progresses.

· Quizlet - You will be joining a class on Classroom so that I can monitor your practice on Quizlet.

· Google Suite (Docs, Slides, Forms, etc.)

· We will complete writing assignments using Docs. Some will be collaborative assignments with partners or small groups.

· Flipgrid Video Recordings- is a free App on your phone and the simplest way to complete these recordings.

· Good old paper and pencil - may ask you to submit photos of work on Classroom.

. Kahoot: When you play Kahoot, you must use your real name so that I am able to document your playing time.

  • Grading: Homework is 20%, Class participation is 15% and Projects are 20%, Quizzes are worth 15% and Listening and speaking is 20% of your grade. There is a Quarterly Assessment each marking period to measure student mastery of the language, which is 10% of your grade.

  • Be excited about learning something new and do not be afraid to make mistakes! Class participation is extremely important. Students who speak and make mistakes receive higher oral participation grades than students who do not speak for fear of making a mistake. Each chapter you will have an oral participation grade as well as an oral exam.

Attendance: Attendance is MANDATORY. I will take attendance from the zoom class and submit it to the office, as if we were meeting in person.

School and Classroom Policy: 1. In the interest of protecting the privacy of the members of the Methacton School District community, no one is allowed to use any camera, video camera, smart phone, iPad or any other electronic device to take any photo(s) or video(s) of any student, faculty member, administrator, staff and any other personnel on or off campus at any time without awareness and/or permission of that individual. 2. A student is never allowed to share electronic content from a photo or video obtained without permission. 3. Anyone who violates this policy is subject to disciplinary action.

Academic Integrity: It is the expectation that every student does her own work. If you take the work of others and pass it off as your own in any way, it is plagiarism. This does not merely include copy/pasting someone else’s text word for word, but also if you directly steal their argument. All work must accurately acknowledge and cite sources quoted or paraphrased/summarized in any way. Failure to comply will result in the consequences outlined in the Academic Integrity Policy. Any instance of plagiarism or cheating will be reported to the office, and the student will receive an automatic zero on the assignment that cannot be re-written or made up.

Zoom Etiquette: The following are rules for attending zoom classes. You need to: 1. Join the Zoom class on-time.

2. Wait for me to open the class. You need to have your web camera on at all times displaying your face showing that you are listening and taking notes. Still pictures or pre recorded videos in front of your camera are NOT allowed.

3. Be prepared with your notebook/pencil to write down information that we cover. 4. You will all be muted upon entry to the class. When you want to ask a question you will use the “Raise Hand” feature. I will then unmute you and you can ask your question.

5. All students should behave as if we were meeting in person according to classroom policy and the Methacton School District Student Handbook

6. If a student abuses the privilege of learning in any way, the school disciplinarian will be notified, and the student will be held accountable.

7. Remove yourself from any distractions. This includes but is not limited to: moving backgrounds, sounds, frequent disruptions by family members or pets, and/or anything else that may distract you or your peers from their learning experience.

Consequences - If student behavior or attitude becomes problematic, the following steps will be taken:

1. Warning

2. Discussion with teacher outside class.

3. Phone call to parent/guardian and teacher detention.

4. Administrative action
