What is our Purpose?
The purpose of NJHS is to create enthusiasm for scholarship, to stimulate a desire to render service, to promote leadership, to develop character, and to encourage citizenship.
How are NJHS's goals accomplished?
Goals for each school year include the NJHS members learning and exercising their skills within the group, their school, and their community. Having the members learn how to take an idea that embodies the NJHS ideals and develop them into reality. Students meet and discuss, vote, plan, implement, and deliver. This is all completed by working together and is an integral part of the pillars of the NJHS organization.
When does NJHS meet?
The membership meets (generally) on B and F days during advisory. This time is used to plan, prepare, create, collect, and distribute all items for all activities.
Is there Community Service?
Yes! There are many activities focused on Community Service and participation to help our community. Our members are very busy earning their required ten (10) hours.
What do the results look like as a member of the Arcola Chapter of the NJHS? Is their Student Growth?
Members of the NJHS represent the school on five pillars: scholarship, leadership, character, service, and citizenship. They start with acceptance as scholarship representatives (their candidacy displays such with their academic grades) but the school year and activities provide opportunities for developing and fostering other areas such as leadership (officer positions, speaking and guiding parents and students at events, etc.), service and citizenship (collections, fundraising, and even tutoring), and finally, character (demonstrating how to give of their time, energy, and helping others in need). These activities allow the students to grow and enrich their experiences as members of their school community.
