Tutorials are an essential part of AVID. Tutorials are conducted twice every week. Students are supposed to bring a question that they can work on with their peers. They are meant to help the students learn how to work collaboratively in a study group setting and be able to figure out things they need help with on their own. Tutorials help students evaluate their thinking and figure out what they need help with.
On the tutorial request form, students identify an area of confusion from any of their classes. Their point of confusion does not have to come directly from classwork. If there is a concept they need clarification on, an essay they need help writing, a passage they didn’t understand, etc…they can ask questions about it in tutorials. They can use their notes or find some more practice problems online to clarify their thinking.
