One of the most popular vehicles in today’s car culture is the 88-98 GMT-400 Chevrolet pickup. Almost everyone we know that is into trucks affectionately calls these trucks OBSs (Old Body Style) and understands that they can be customized and appreciated in many different forms. As classic pickups have exploded in value and desirability, the OBS chevy trucks have also climbed in status and value. Any limited or rare models of these trucks have gained considerable attention throughout the past decade and that’s what brings us to this truck here.
For the 1993 Indianapolis 500 Race, Chevrolet was selected as the manufacturer to provide that year’s Official Pace Car. Chevy selected the newly redesigned 1993 Chevrolet Camaro Z28 to keep up with the entire fleet of 800 horsepower race cars, To commemorate the event they also created an Official Pace Truck to compliment their Pace Car. Chevrolet took 1534 of their 5.7L V8 powered single cab short bed Silverado 1500s for the 1993 model year & treated them to the Indy Pace Truck package. This Package resulted in a custom 2 tone paint job with vibrant stripes throughout the entire truck, bucket seats, & race decals decorating the entire truck. Over the past 30 years many of these trucks have been maintained and loved by collectors throughout the world, seldomly trading hands but being enjoyed by many. But not all of them. Inevitably, some of these trucks have suffered accidents resulting in total losses. Some have been scrapped for parts, or even ended up in impound lots to rot away. Which brings us here.
Our class was presented with an opportunity to restore one of these extremely limited trucks. Upon it's arrival it was immediately evident that this specific truck was no show queen. It had spent the majority of its life as someone’s little ‘ole work truck. As we inspected it, even from a distance, it was clear this truck has a hard life. Dents everywhere, a bit of rust damage here and there, missing headlights, and almost 300,000 miles! The poor thing was likely convinced that there was zero chance it would be loved again so we decided to jump in & help this truck break some necks!
We've spent any spare time available inside & outside of our class chipping away at the truck's restoration. The trucks exterior & interior will remain fairly stock. We have made a few custom touches by shaving some unnecessary holes or features. The suspension will be converted to a fully adjustable QA1 Coilover Suspension with an anticipated 5"/7" drop. A set of extremely rare Weld Racing VR-45 directional Billet wheels (Made in 1997) is also awaiting installation to complete a tasteful 90's look.
If all goes according to plan, our truck will be on display at the show!
See y'all soon!!!
