Inception by Joseph Compello

Inception is the establishment or starting point of an institution or activity. Mr. Compello wrote this song to signify the beginning of a band journey and to inspire them to continue. Joseph Compello, a native of Carbondale, Pennsylvania, holds degrees in music education from the Peabody Conservatory and Towson University. During his thirty-one year career as an instrumental music teacher in Maryland, he wrote numerous compositions for his students. In 1994, Carl Fischer began publishing many of these classroom-tested pieces, including his debut publication Cadets on Parade and 1996 best-seller Rock to the Max, Mr. Sax. In 2003, Compello's journey from local band director to internationally published composer was chronicled in the prestigious Baltimore Sun. Now retired from teaching, Compello continues to draw on his extensive background in music education to compose new music exclusively for Carl Fischer's Performance Series, which now contains over eighty-five of his works.

Danza Feliz by William Owens

Danza Feliz was written as a tribute to one of Mr. Owen's favorite schools that he works with. William Owens (b. 1963) received his Bachelor of Music Education degree in 1985 from VanderCook College of Music in Chicago. A seasoned music educator, Mr. Owens is active as a composer, conductor, and clinician throughout the United States. Mr. Owens has written numerous commissioned and published works for middle school and high school concert bands. His music has been programmed at prestigious venues such as the Midwest Clinic and appears on required music lists both nationally and abroad. Principal commissions include those from the California Band Directors Association, the Chicago Public Schools Bureau of Cultural Arts, and the Texas University Interscholastic League. He is a winner of the ASCAPlus award and a two-time recipient of the Forrest L. Buchtel Citation for Excellence in Band Composition. Professional memberships include ASCAP, the American Composers Forum, and Texas MEA. Mr. Owens resides in Fort Worth, Texas, with his wife Georgia.
