The School Library and the Instructional Program
The primary role of the school library program is to teach the literacy, information, and critical thinking skills that students need to achieve academically and in life. The program is shaped by the goals and objectives of the district, the campus, the scope of the curriculum, the teaching patterns in the school, and the needs of the students and staff.
Librarians serve as instructional partners with teachers to support, enrich, and extend student learning both in the classroom and in the library as appropriate. Mesquite ISD librarians support instruction and learning through four types of collaboration with teachers.
The Library Program Planning Framework guides the librarian in directing the campus library program aligned to national and state standards for school libraries. It is organized around four main strands that include the 3 pillars of library instruction in Mesquite ISD:
Foundational
Personalized & Self-Directed Learning
Inquiry Instruction
Transformative & Enriching Experiences
