Thunderbird Wellness Week

Free STI Testing, Oral Cancer and Blood Glucose Screenings, Fitness Challenges and Assessments, Workshops, CPR Demo, Blood Drive info, Trivia Contests and MORE! Work out with MCC Exercise Science Students during Wellness Day!

Stop by the clock tower lawn and complete some fitness activities with MCC Exercise Science students during the MCC Wellness Day on Tuesday November 8th. Attendees who complete a fitness assessment and/or workout will be entered to win a prize bag (including a bluetooth speaker, 2 Harkins movie passes, a free Fitness Center membership, t-shirt and more)! Fitness assessments and games will be available for the entire event (9am-2pm) and the following scheduled workouts are open to anyone:

  • 9, 9:15, 9:30 and 9:45am: 10-minute cardio relay

  • 10:30-11:45am: 15-exercise strength circuit, designed to target every major muscle group in your body. Participants can register for a spot in advance here, or drop-in and get assigned a trainer

  • 12-12:20: Yoga

Modifications are provided for all fitness levels and any restrictions due to injury. Anyone completing one of the scheduled workouts will receive a swag bag in addition to being entered into the drawing for the EXS prize bag.

Veterans Day Trail Run/Walk (RM)

November 10 | 12:30 pm | Red Mountain Fitness Trail

Celebrate and honor Veterans Day with a 1 or 2 mile walk/run on the beautiful Red Mountain desert fitness trail.

Free snacks and refreshments for all participants after they finish. All MCC students who participate will be entered in to win Thunderbird Wellness Week prizes. Students receive 5 tickets towards the bike by participating in the Trail Run/Walk.

As Americans, casting a ballot is a fundamental part of our nation’s democratic process. This Tuesday, November 8, is Election Day, and Arizona polls are open from 6am to 7p.m. We encourage registered voters to fulfill their civic responsibilities by casting ballots on a range of issues and candidates seeking public office at the local, state, and federal levels.

Indigenous Language Display

MCC Library hosts student-created exhibit on Indigenous Languages

Stop by the Paul A. Elsner Library (and tell your students) to explore the many reasons why Native Americans have served in the military from colonial times to the present. Created by students in collaboration with MCC's American Indian Institute, viewers are encouraged to consider how this service demonstrates language as a representation of resilience and survival -- for indigenous peoples in the face of forced removal, boarding schools, and other acts of genocide and assimilation, and for the United States that used code talkers as part of critical military strategy.

Help us to make a difference on World Hunger Day at this Annual MCC Tradition!

What: A day where you can donate $10 and take home a handcrafted bowl designed by an MCC art student or bid in the silent auction to win original ceramic pieces by some of the valley's most talented artists.

We Care Wednesday

Valley Metro to offer FREE Bus Route

Valley Metro has begun service of a new bus route in West Mesa. The best part? It's FREE!

The route, called "Mesa Fiesta Buzz," is a free neighborhood circulator provided by the City of Mesa. It connects the Fiesta District, Asian District, and Mesa Riverview. The circulator travels the route in a northbound-southbound direction every 30 minutes. Travel time is approximately 25 minutes from end to end, with park-and-ride available at the Sycamore/Main St. Transit Center.

Get Involved and Get Connected!

Clubs are an extremely valuable part of a student's experience at MCC. If you are interested in getting involved in a student club, please stay tuned for opportunities to meet our clubs, and consider starting (or reactivating) a new club! We are also seeking club advisors to help support a variety of MCC clubs. Any faculty or staff that are interested in this opportunity are encouraged to reach out to a member of the Student Life team.

The Club Hub will have an updated list of student clubs (as we learn which clubs will be active this year) as well as important paperwork, forms, and a list of club connections to various Fields of Interest.

We Care Wednesday

We Care Wednesday is a food distribution that takes place on the first Wednesday of every month at the Southern/Dobson campus and the third Wednesday of every month at the Red Mountain campus. The distribution happens from 10 am-12 pm* or until supplies run out. The food distributions are open to all students and community members in need of food assistance:

  • Drive-thru service. A volunteer will place food in your trunk or vehicle. (Walk-up service is available for those without vehicles.)

  • Southern Dobson: Located in the Southwest parking lot. Please enter from Dobson Road onto Solar Way at the Southern and Dobson campus.

  • Red Mountain: Located in the Red Mountain Way Circle. Please enter from McKellips Rd and proceed straight through the stop sign. Distribution takes place in the circle near the Desert Willow building.

Each Wednesday during the Fall 2022 semester the Career Services Department will be hosting Working Wednesdays on the Clock Tower sidewalk from 9am - 12pm. Each week, we will welcome employers on campus to table and speak with interested students about the job opportunities available within their organization. We welcome you to join us for Civic Action Hour on Wednesdays from 12:00 pm – 1:00 pm. We have organized new and exciting speakers and topics for the semester to support Civic Engagement, Civic Action, Civic Service and Civic Leadership. The speakers bring great ideas and opportunities to their presentations for our students. These events are also Honors Co-curricular approved.

Civic Engagement Events

Civic Action encompasses actions to promote the quality of life in the community, through both political and non-political processes. Many of our events, projects and activities surround the Civic Holidays that include Constitution Day, National Voter Registration Day, Civic Engagement Week, AZ Civics Week, National Voter Education Week, and National Vote Early Day and collaborating with our community and national partners Check back periodically to see events that have been added.

EngageMe Workshops | Fridays from 12:00-2:00 pm

EngageMe Workshops are open to students, staff, faculty, and community partners as we offer additional educational training in civic engagement to promote the quality of life in the community through both political and non-political processes. Link to participate.

MCC Fitness Center Memberships

Start the new semester STRONG! Did you know you can sign up for a membership to the MCC Fitness Centers? They provide membership access to students, employees, and the community, and a membership gives you access to both the Southern and Dobson and the Red Mountain campus fitness centers. Membership includes cardio and strength training equipment, fitness tools/accessories, access to drop in group fitness classes, personal training consultation and 1 complementary session, knowledgeable staff, day use lockers, clean facilities, and no crowds!

  • Students = $50 per semester or $30 for half semester

  • Employees = $25 per semester
