Dr. Moore is a mathematician, physicist, and computer scientist at Santa Fe Institute.

Margaret Talia White is a poet, spoken word and hip-hop artist as well as a higher education professional working directly with Indigenous students. She is 34 years old and presently residing in Tempe, Arizona. With prayer and a long lineage of strong matriarchs, her inspiration is to support and empower Indigenous women as they are essential and the heart of our communities. Through her traditional upbringing and personal experiences, her aim is to advocate through her artistry the message of strength and resilience. Her stories are written to celebrate the power and force that IS Indigenous Women.

MARGARET TALIA WHITE IS FROM MEXICAN SPRINGS, NEW MEXICO AND IS A MEMBER OF THE NAVAJO NATION. HER CLANS ARE TODICHIINII (BITTERWATER PEOPLE) BORN FOR TSENJIKINI (CLIFF DWELLER PEOPLE).

Topic: Success and Struggle: The Experience of First Generation College Students

Thunderbird Dialogues are student-led discussions in which students can engage in constructive and respectful dialogue while sharing their views and experiences.

What students can expect:

  • Learn how to create communities of belonging

  • Build cross-cultural relationships through meaningful dialogue

  • Engage in active listening, empathy, and perspective-taking

  • Build skillset to understand cultural differences and similarities

  • Recognize ways in which other cultural and social identities differ from their own and how they see and experience the world differently.

The students in Paul Harasha's Race and Ethical Relations class (SOC 241) will be leading the Thunderbird Dialogue discussions this semester. Please share the information below with students. Staff and faculty are invited to listen.

In addition to the Empty Bowls we will have donation stations available to help stock the Mesa Market. Please bring your canned and non-perishable food items to help provide for MCC’s students.

Empty Bowls

MCC will be hosting their annual Empty Bowls event at both Red Mountain (Nov 4) and Southern & Dobson (Nov 10) in observance of World Hunger Day. For a $10 donation, patrons may select a one-of-a-kind, handcrafted ceramic bowl to take home. There will also be a silent auction held of special ceramic pieces gathered from various valley artists. All proceeds from the sale of bowls and silent auctions will benefit Paz de Cristo Community Center, the nonprofit providing anti-hunger and empowerment support for the East Valley's homeless, unemployed, working poor and their families.

Veterans Day Events

Veterans Day is a federal holiday in the United States observed annually on November 11 to honor all service members, whether living or deceased, who’ve served in times of war or peace. We support our veterans at Mesa Community College and ask that you join us in honoring and celebrating those who have served.

Veterans Day Trail Run

Participate in the Veterans Day and 20th Anniversary Trail Run/Walk on Wednesday, November 10 at 12:30 PM on the Red Mountain campus. Click here for more information, and click here to sign up. The route is 2.0 miles to celebrate 20 years of MCC Red Mountain. All participants receive a free t-shirt and healthy snacks following the walk/run.

Never Forget Garden Dedication

MCC will be dedicating its new Never Forget Garden, a space within the MCC Rose Garden to honor U.S. service members and the centennial of the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier. Harvest Baskets Food Drive

Student Life & Leadership will be sponsoring a Harvest Basket food drive for MCC students to celebrate Thanksgiving or have a special meal with family and friends. The food box will include non-perishable food such as stuffing mix, instant potatoes, bread mix, canned veggies, a gift card for a turkey, etc. We need your help putting together the baskets!

How it works:

  • Pledge to make a Harvest Basket(s) donation here

  • Work with your department, co-workers, committees, friends, family, and neighbors to collect items on the donation list.

  • Place items in a box/basket and drop them off to Student Life on Nov 17 or Nov 18 by 5 pm.

We Care Wednesday at RM

The next We Care Wednesday drive through produce distribution is taking place at the RED MOUNTAIN campus on Wednesday, Nov 17. It will take place from 10 am-12 pm. This is free and open to the public!

Enter campus on Red Mountain Way off of McKellips Road. A volunteer will place the food in your trunk/car. Please wear a mask for the safety of our volunteers. For more info, visit this link. The next We Care Wednesday at the Southern/Dobson campus will take place on 12/1/21.

Native American Heritage Celebration

The Mesa Community College American Institute proudly presents our first ever Native American Heritage Celebration in honor of Native American Heritage Month! Join us for a night full of Indigenous Arts & Crafts, Food, Music, and performances from our very own Indigenous students, faculty, and staff, as well as a free movie showing of the film Smoke Signals.

This event will be free and open to the public! If you are interested in performing, vending or volunteering for this event please email aii@mesacc.edu. All proceeds from this event will benefit the MCC Indigenous student clubs ISO (Intertribal Student Organization) and AISES (American Indian Science and Engineering Society).

November is nationally recognized as Native American Heritage Month, but we can celebrate Indigenous people each and every day. Starting with land acknowledgments, supporting community events, buying from Indigenous artists and donating to Indigenous organizations. Thank you for always showing your support!

RM Holiday Boutique & Car Show

Get Involved and Get Connected!

Clubs are an extremely valuable part of a student's experience at MCC. If you are interested in getting involved in a student club, please stay tuned for opportunities to meet our clubs, and consider starting (or reactivating) a new club! We are also seeking club advisors to help support a variety of MCC clubs. Any faculty or staff that are interested in this opportunity are encouraged to reach out to a member of the Student Life team.

The Club Hub will have an updated list of student clubs (as we learn which clubs will be active this year) as well as important paperwork, forms, and a list of club connections to various Fields of Interest.

We Care Wednesday

We Care Wednesday is a food distribution that takes place on the first Wednesday of every month at the Southern/Dobson campus and the third Wednesday of every month at the Red Mountain campus. The distribution happens from 10 am-12 pm. The food distributions are open to all students and community members in need of food assistance:

  • Drive-thru service. A volunteer will place food in your trunk or vehicle. (Walk-up service is available for those without vehicles.)

  • Masks are encouraged. If you are feeling any cold or flu symptoms, please stay home and seek medical treatment.

  • Southern Dobson: Located in the Southwest parking lot. Please enter from Dobson Road onto Solar Way at the Southern and Dobson campus.

  • Red Mountain: Located in the Red Mountain Way Circle. Please enter from McKellips Rd and proceed straight through the stop sign. Distribution takes place in the former Bus Stop circle near the library.

Career Services Workshops

MCC Career Services will host virtual workshops each Tuesday and Thursday during the Fall semester. Our workshops will take place two times each Tuesday/Thursday at 10am and 6pm. Our Tuesday/Thursday virtual workshops will cover the topics of resume writing, cover letter writing, and interviewing skills.

  • Job Searching Skills

Included in our Working Wednesday Events will be dedicated time for students to interact with MCC's Career Services staff and local employers, with open positions, on our Clock Tower sidewalk from 10am - 12pm each Wednesday from September 1st through December 1st.
