Join a CLUB at MCC!

Our active clubs at MCC are recruiting for new members! The spring semester is a great time to get involved in a club, and take on leadership responsibilities for future semesters. It is so imporant to connect with your fellow students during college, and clubs are a great way to do that.

Clubs are all meeting and holding their activities virtually this semester, and for this reason, not all of our usual clubs are active. But--we still have a great variety of clubs hoping to see you join them this semester!

Follow MCC Student Life Social Media (Facebook and Instagram) to see highlights of many of the active clubs this semester, and visit our Club page to get an updated list of active clubs and their meeting time/links when available.

CLICK HERE TO SIGN UP FOR CLUBS! This link will be available all semester, but we are doing a concentrated effort to encourage club sign-ups from February 8-February 19.

MCC STUDENTS SPEAK

What do you know about the MCC Honors Program?

The Honors Program in the Maricopa Community College district holds scholarship opportunities and tips for students to qualify. The program is separate from Phi Theta Kappa. They are sister programs but you do not need to be in one to be in the other. Scholarships are available for both incoming college students from high school and current community college students. There is the option to utilize the scholarships now while attending Mesa Community College. Just for a heads up, the Red Mountain Campus is an extension of the Southern and Dobson campus. The honors information will be the same for both locations.

Side note, if you don't qualify, still feel free to reach out to the department and ask for tips to raise your GPA to qualify in the future. The ability to invest and mold your future is in your hands!

Is Instagram ‘Reels’ Taking Over Tiktok?

If you were bored in quarantine this last summer, you might have downloaded the app “TikTok”. You probably got sucked into scrolling for hours on end watching the 15-60 second clips people posted around the world. If you were as invested in it as I was, you probably downloaded it way in advance and knew about the issues of it possibly being banned in the United States. Although this was an issue for TikTok, other social media app did not hesitate to swoop in and develop their own versions of Tiktok, this is when Instagram ‘Reels’ comes in. Of course, it then got tons of traffic from popular creators making separate accounts just in case their other ones get lost, to regular users scrolling through to see what the new extension to Instagram was all about. What people found out was that there wasn’t anything new about it at all, people were re-posting old videos and it just did not have the same effect. Creators felt indifferent saying that they mostly only care about having an extra social media platform to gain popularity on. So, the opinions are split. Instagram ‘Reels’ Remains another social media extension buried in a world of users while TikTok remains at the top of the app download list.

Dad Jokes

Here are some "dad jokes" you may not have heard before:

  • Of all the inventions of the last 100 years, the dry erase board has been the most remarkable.

  • Why was 2019 afraid of 2020? Because they had a fight and 2021.

  • Asked my date to meet me at the gym, but she didn't show up. I guess we aren't going to work out.

  • eBay is so useless. I tried to look up lighters and all they had was 13,749 matches.

  • I made a playlist for hiking. It has music from Peanuts, the Cranberries, and Eminem. I call it my trail mix.

  • Two guys walk into a bar. The other guy ducked.

  • Do you know why nurses like red crayons? Sometimes they have to draw blood.

  • How do celebrities stay cool? They have so many fans.

  • What bear is most condescending? A Pan-Duh!

  • What kind of noise does a witch's vehicle make? Brrroooom Brrrroooom!
