PBTV
Frequently Asked Questions
(FAQs)
Q1. How do I try out for PBTV?
A1. There are no tryouts for PBTV. If you submit the form and have your parent/guardian submit the permission form, then you are in.
Q2. What if I change my mind about being in the crew?
A2. If you change your mind about being in the crew, it’s OK. Just email Mrs. Walden at swalden@mersnj.us and let her know. She won’t be upset and there are usually plenty of people who wouldn’t mind taking your place.
Q3. Will I be in the PBTV Crew all Year?
A3. No. You are only in the crew for about a month out of the year. Because we have so many students who want to participate we have to limit how long you can work on the crew in order to accommodate everyone. Plus, you can't miss that much of your homeroom.
Q4. Do I have to be at school early or stay after school to be in PBTV?
A4. No. You will get off the bus or be dropped off at the regular time in the morning, but come straight to PBTV. Our only practice time is between the time you get off the bus and when we go live.
Q5. Will PBTV interfere with the other activities I've joined?
A5. Not Usually. PBTV starts EVERY morning as soon as the busses arrive and runs until the first period bell (8:45-9:02). It won't interfere with your morning activities. However, if you are in an assembly or are going on a trip, or have a special morning event planned with your class or activity, then you will miss PBTV for that day.
Q6. How will I learn to use the equipment in the studio?
A6. With the exception of the first crew, you will have a trainer. The Trainer will follow you while you are a part of the crew to make sure you are comfortable with all of the jobs. Mrs. Walden will train the first crew.
Q7. How do I know which job I will do in PBTV?
A7. Everyone does every job. There are 5 main jobs and then 5 trainer jobs. If you are part of the crew you must do each of the main jobs. If you are a trainer you will do the trainer jobs along with training the crew. You will do a different job each day of the week. However, if you are uncomfortable in front of the camera, we can have one of the other crew switch jobs with you for that day.
Q8. Do I have to do all the jobs in PBTV?
A8. It is highly encouraged. It is important to know how to do all of the jobs in the studio to get the full experience so we encourage you to do all the jobs. However, if you are uncomfortable in front of the camera, we can have one of the other crew switch jobs with you for that day.
Q9. If I’m only in the crew for 1 month, do I still take the group photo? What if my turn to be in the PBTV Crew hasn't come up yet or it has already passed, should I still take the group photo?
A9. Yes. You should ABSOLUTELY be in the group photo. You ARE a part of the crew. Even if you haven't participated yet, or your turn in the studio is over.
Q10. What if I’m sick, or there’s a special event or there is a snow day? Do I get to make up those days?
A10. Unfortunately, No. Because we have so many students who want to participate we have to stick closely to the schedule in order to accommodate everyone. If you are sick, have a special event or there is a snow day, you will miss that day.
Q11. What if I come to Pine Brook after the permission slips are due? Can I still join?
A11. Yes. An exception will be made if you entered Pine Brook School after the permission slips were due and you will be allowed to join as long as you fill out the form and have your permission slip signed by you, your homeroom teacher and a parent/guardian.
Q12. What are the different MAIN jobs?
A12. The 5 main jobs are: Announcer, (there are 2) Prompter, Audio and Video
Q13. How will I know when it is my turn to participate?
A13. I will post a schedule on this website and in the PBTV Google Classroom so you know when you are going. I will also email the schedule. In addition, I will email a reminder to you and your homeroom teacher the week before you are scheduled to participate. Make sure you fill out the form PBTV Student Form so that I can email you the schedule.
