Rafael Devers is Officially the Face of the Boston Red Sox
Today, the Red Sox officially announced an 11-year 331 million dollar contract extension for Rafael Devers. The largest contract in Red Sox history. Red Sox ownership have been heavily criticized for losing both Mookie Betts and Xander Bogaerts. It has been a frustrating three years for Red Sox fans, but I do not believe anyone can question Fenway Sports Management's commitment to the Boston Red Sox. John Henry deserves credit for flying to the Dominican Republic in December and doing what was n
Red Sox Sign Masataka Yoshida to Record-Breaking Deal
The Boston Red Sox signed Japanese outfielder Masataka Yoshida to a five-year deal for 90 million. As a player from Nippon Professional Baseball, Yoshida was required to be posted to gain international Free-Agent status. Yoshida's posting was 15.4 million, so the total cost of the contract will be 105.4 million. This is the largest contract for an international Free Agent for an NPB position player in history. Yoshida is one the best international Free Agents in recent memory and has benefited f
Red Sox Sign Kenley Jansen
The 2022 Boston Red Sox bullpen was one of the worst in baseball. Red Sox relievers blew 28 saves last season and had an ERA of 4.59, the second-worst in the American League. Boston's bullpen was so bad in 2022 that it cost them several games. Thankfully, the Red Sox have made several acquisitions to bolster their bullpen with Joely Rodriguez and Chris Martin, but their most significant need in the bullpen was to find a closer. Thankfully they have addressed that need. Boston will no longer use
It is time for the Red Sox to be aggressive and sign Brandon Nimmo
This offseason is one of the most important in recent memory for the Boston Red Sox. The organization has many critical decisions to make regarding what direction this organization will go in. The future of this club is uncertain, and with the stellar talent in the division, Boston needs to make several upgrades to their roster to compete in the American League East. Boston's main priorities should be keeping Xander Bogaerts and adding starting pitching. But another area of focus for the Red Sox
If I were an MLB GM, The player I would pay to play for my team this Free Agency is Carlos Correa
The fact that Carlos Correa is on the open market for a second consecutive year is an excellent opportunity for all 30 Major League Baseball teams. This a unique chance to add a proven winner to your ball club in the prime of their career. At 28 years old, Carlos Correa is the youngest player in this terrific group of Free Agent Shortstops. One could argue that he is also the most talented Shortstop in this Free Agent class. But nobody can deny that he has had the most successful career of any o

Assessing the Future of Xander Bogaerts
The Boston Red Sox biggest priority this offseason is to resign Xander Bogaerts. The storylines regarding the contract status of Boston's shortstop loomed large over the 2022 season. The frustration over losing a Hall of Fame caliber talent in Mookie Betts is still fresh in the minds of Red Sox Nation. Losing Xander and Betts within three years would be a Red Sox fan's worst nightmare. On a positive note, there have been numerous reports of the Red Sox working hard to keep Xander in Boston for t
A Conversation With Baseball's First Designated Hitter: Ron Blomberg
To start off, I was wondering if you had any specific stories and memories from April 6th 1973, the day you made baseball history by becoming the first Designated Hitter in baseball history? - I think my favorite story about being the first DH is that I made history against the Red Sox. It wasn’t a pretty game for the Yankees cause we lost I think 10-5, but being a Yankee, it's always nice to have something against the Red Sox. All jokes aside, having the opportunity to be the first DH in MLB hi
Yankees are Botching the Aaron Judge Situation
One of the biggest storylines in baseball right now is Aaron Judge's upcoming Free Agency after this season. Before Opening Day, the Yankees tried to extend the face of their franchise but he rejected their offer. In response, Yankees General Manager, Brian Cashman, leaked that the Yankees offered Aaron Judge a seven year contract with an AAV of 30.5 million for a total of 213.5 million. Accepting the extension would have made Aaron Judge the highest paid Yankee based on AAV in team history. Jud
Who Will Play First in Boston Long Term?
The Red Sox are fortunate enough to be a well rounded baseball team. There are not a lot of glaring holes in the lineup, the rotation depth is solid and the bullpen does their job. Although, there is one position the Red Sox need to address in the near future and that is First Base. In the Free Agent market, one of the best players in baseball is available, in Freddie Freeman. Freeman is coming off his first World Series victory with Atlanta, where he has served as the face of the franchise for
Baseball America Ranks Four Sox Prospects in annual Top 100 Prospects List
Keith Law of Baseball America has recently shared his Top 100 Prospects in baseball. In his rankings, four Red Sox prospects were included. Here is a brief rundown of the Red Sox top prospects. (18) Marcelo Mayer Marcelo Mayer is a generational talent who the Red Sox selected fourth overall in the 2021 MLB draft. How good is he? Well, without playing a full season of professional baseball, MLB.com ranked Mayer as the ninth best prospect in baseball. Baseball America only ranks him at eighteen du
Red Sox Need to Extend Rafael Devers
The John Henry ownership era has been the most successful in the long history of the Boston Red Sox. Entering his twentieth season as owner, the Henry owned Red Sox have brought four championships to Boston, which is more World Series titles than any other MLB franchise over that span. In the 21st century, life as a Red Sox fan has been nothing short of awesome. Despite this reign of greatness, fans and players alike are frustrated over the Red Sox’s lack of long term commitment to young players
Red Sox Sign Garett Whitlock to 4 Year Extension
The Boston Red Sox have announced the signing of Garrett Whitlock to a four-year extension with 18.75 guaranteed. The deal includes two club options for the 2027 and 2028 seasons. In total, the contract's maximum value is six years at 44.5 million. This contract is an absolute win for the Red Sox, especially because this is such a team-friendly deal. They’ve currently secured the control of Garett Whitlock through 2028 at an affordable price. Currently, the Red Sox have one of the best relievers
Red Sox Players to Watch in 2022; Free Agents To Be
The Boston Red Sox will find themselves in an interesting situation at the end of the 2022 season. They have three major players in their core who will hit Free Agency with Vazquez, Bogaerts, and Eovaldi. Let's evaluate who will stay and who will go. Christian Vazquez There is no question that catching is the toughest position in the game of baseball. The toll of being behind the plate does damage to any ball player. Crouched down on your knees, foul balls hitting you, the amount of your throws
Red Sox Bolster Offense, Sign Trevor Story
The ridiculous narrative that the Red Sox no longer act like a big market franchise and refuse to spend money on high end talent is now over. Yes, Chaim Bloom was forced to cut payroll, by the man who writes the checks, John Henry. Yes, Chaim Bloom is good at getting players on team friendly contracts, after all Tampa needs to do that to stay competitive. Today, Chaim Bloom signed Trevor Story to a 6 year 140 million dollar contract. Ending the narrative he will not spend money on the biggest na
Red Sox Fans Should Believe in Chris Sale
If the Red Sox want to make a serious World Series run they will likely need Chris Sale to make a major contribution. The pressure of being an ace in Boston is a lot to handle. All eyes are on you and the expectations of fans are high. In Boston, if you don’t deliver, the city nearly forgets everything you have accomplished for their team. Tuukka Rask is the prime example of this. Unfortunately for Chris Sale, he is now experiencing this notorious Boston backlash, after not meeting the majority
Beware of the Red Sox Post Lockout
There is serious danger of the 2022 Major League Baseball being delayed or cancelled entirely. On December 2nd, the owners imposed a lock out of the players. One day after the expiration of the Collective Bargaining Agreement the lock out was imposed to create a sense of urgency for the players to negotiate a new CBA. We’re in February now so the owner's strategy clearly has not worked. In times of lock out and strikes it is always important to remember to root for the players. They’re the enter
Why Jeter Downs Has a Bright Future
Red Sox Nation, we knew this trade was inevitable but it did not make it sting any less. Similar to any blockbuster, this trade is complex and has a lot of moving parts. My goal is to write about all the different angles of the trade. The Red Sox received three new players in this deal and I will be writing an introduction post for each of them. This post serves as an introduction to shortstop Jeter Downs. Yes, the Red Sox have Jeter on their side of the rivalry now. Jeter Downs was ranked the 8
Here is Why A MLB Lockout is Coming
The baseball offseason “hot stove” has been as cold as ever. The last few winters free agents will not sign until February or March. This past year Craig Kimbrel and Dallas Keuchel sat out until late June. The strangest part is players are still signing massive contracts. Two of the top five largest free agent contracts baseball has ever seen were signed this year. What's up this market? The Second Wild Card The second Wild Card has slowed baseball's free agent and trade market tremendously. Las
Introducing the Newest Red Sox, Alex Verdugo
Red Sox Nation, we knew this trade was inevitable but it did not make it sting any less. Similar any blockbuster, this trade is complex and has a lot of moving parts. My goal is to write about all the different angles of the trade. The Red Sox received three new players in this deal and I will be writing an introduction post for each of them. This post is an introduction to Alex Verdugo. A cool fact about the newest Red Sox, he was a fan of his new team growing up with Manny Ramirez and David Or
Mitchy Two Bags Returns
The Red Sox resigning Mitch Moreland is a total win for the Red Sox. The Red Sox signed the first baseman to a one year contract, paying him 2.5 million in 2020 with a buyout of 500K and a club option for 2021 that would pay 3 million. The Red Sox cannot lose on this deal. Yes, I am a big fan of Mitch Moreland. His pinch hit three-run home run in game 4 of the 2018 World Series was the biggest hit the Red Sox had all postseason. As a fan that home run is a memory I will never forget. The nostalg
Veterans Committee Inductees Provide Hope For Snubbed Players
The Baseball world is outraged over Barry Bonds and Roger Clemens being excluded from the Baseball Hall of Fame. They are two of the greatest to ever play the game of baseball. These results have led to a severe criticism of the Hall of Fame. Many players and fans are questioning the museum's credibility without Barry Bonds and Roger Clemens. The credibility of the Hall of Fame process needs to be questioned. However, the Veterans committee showed us that there is still hope for those the BBWAA
Red Sox Sign Kevin Pillar
The first move Chaim Bloom made with the Red Sox new payroll flexibility is.... signing veteran outfielder, Kevin Pillar to a one year deal worth four million, half his market value. The Red Sox 2020 outfield is expected to have three lefty starters in Benintendi, Bradley Jr and Verdugo. A right handed bat to compliment the three lefty outfielders was needed. Kevin Pillar is mostly known for being a great defender. Over his six year big league career, Pillar has a .990 fielding percentage and 60
Red Sox Name Roenicke Interim Manager
Major League Baseball’s overly lengthy investigation into the 2018 Red Sox has significantly affected Boston’s search for a new manager. The arrival of pitchers and catchers this week meant the Red Sox no longer have the luxury of waiting for the investigation to end. They needed to name a manager but the league’s investigation on the team not being completed puts the Red Sox into a hole. At the end of the day, a ball club needs a manager for spring training which lead Chaim Bloom to promote Ron
David Ortiz to be Immortalized in Cooperstown
Two of my biggest hobbies are baseball and history. Naturally the Baseball Hall of Fame is one of my favorite places on earth. A museum to tell the history of America’s pastime. Unfortunately, due to the politics of BBWAA the Hall of Fame often does not serve its purpose. They failed to allow Bonds and Clemens into the Hall of Fame despite being two of the greatest to ever play. PED’s do tarnish their legacy but you cannot tell the story of the history of baseball without talking about steroids.
Breakdown of Red Sox Starting Pitching Candidates
For the majority of the past decade, Red Sox fans have been blessed with watching one of the best offenses in baseball. The Red Sox lineup is filled with talented hitters such as Rafael Devers, Xander Bogaerts, JD Martinez, Alex Verdugo and Kiké Hernández. The Red Sox offense should be as dynamic as ever in 2022 but once you get the Postseason, pitching matters most. The Red Sox starting pitching has had its inconsistencies over the years. We are currently in the middle of a long rebuild of the
New Catcher, Connor Wong Kicks Off Chaim Bloom Era
Red Sox Nation, we knew this trade was inevitable but it did not make it sting any less. Similar any blockbuster, this trade is complex and has a lot of moving parts. My goal is to write about all the different angles of the trade. The Red Sox received three new players in this deal and I will be writing an introduction post for each of them. This post will serve as introduction to a new catcher in the organization, Connor Wong. The Red Sox are fortunate enough to have one of the game's best cat
Respect for David Price
Red Sox Nation, we knew this trade was inevitable but it did not make it sting any less. Like any blockbuster, this trade is complex and has a lot of moving parts. My goal is to write about all the different angles of the trade. This post will be focused on doing something the Boston sports media never did... give David Price the respect he deserves. David Price’s Boston tenure has been a roller coaster. Over the years, the Boston sports media and fans questioned David Price's character. He did
Why the Red Sox Traded Mookie Betts
Red Sox Nation, we knew this trade was inevitable but it did not make it sting any less. Like any blockbuster, this trade is complex and has a lot of moving parts. My goal is to write about all the different angles of the trade. This post will focus on why the Red Sox traded Mookie Betts. Mookie Betts is an elite and generational talent. As a Red Sox fan, the idea of a Mookie Betts being traded feels like a punch to the gut. The reality is baseball is a business. Mookie Betts believes he is wort
Thoughts on Chaim Bloom Hiring
I want to start off this article by talking about Dave Dombrowski. He is a great baseball executive and I have massive respect for him and will forever be grateful for the 2018 World Series Title. Dombrowski's departure should have been handled better by the Red Sox. His removal one year after winning a World Series was shocking. He was just not on the same page as the Red Sox. Their philosophy changed. The fall of a former Dombrowski run team probably led to his departure from Boston. The Tiger

Fixing Baseball Part 4: Award Voting
I am a big critic of the Baseball Writers Association of America (BBWAA). I believe they have too much power in deciding who gets into the Hall of Fame and who wins awards at the end of the season. I also believe they are inadequate at that job. The list of BWAA’s failures is endless. The only failures that truly bother me are the ones that effect a players legacy. Here are two prime examples of why the BBWAA may not be the best people tp vote on season awards. Pedro Martinez In my opinion, Pedr
Fixing Baseball Part One: Pace Of Play
We have all heard it a billion times. Baseball is dying. America’s National Pastime is certainly not dying but it is declining. Pace of play is slow and not a lot of people are getting into baseball. It is boring to people. I do not want baseball to be boring. I want the game to improve. Rob Manfred wants it to improve. How does it improve? Are the current suggestions good enough? Pace of Play Pace of play is a major issue in baseball. Games have not averaged under three hours since 2012. Before
Fixing Baseball Part 3: Universal DH
Change happens slowly. Especially in baseball. Something that needs to be changed in baseball is the narrative of the Designated Hitter. Edgar Martinez Hall of Fame Edgar Martinez had a career batting average of .312 with a WAR of 68.0 and over 1,000 runs batted in. Somehow, Edgar Martinez was not voted into the Hall Of Fame until his tenth and final year on the ballot. Why? The argument against a Designated Hitter is a weak one. They’re limited, cannot help the team on defense, and are not all
Fixing Baseball Part 2: Star Recognition
I have recently been catching up on baseball podcasts and I came across an interview with Astros third baseman, Alex Bregman on Starting 9. He was talking about how football players wear masks yet they are more recognized than baseball players whose faces you can see everyday. The design of the game baseball really weakens their star recognition. The best pitchers only pitch every fifth day and the best hitters only hit three to four times a game. In hockey, basketball, and football the best pla
Defending the Game:
If I had a Hall of Fame Ballot
Players and fans alike are putting the credibility of the National Baseball Hall of Fame and the Baseball Writers Association of America on trial in the aftermath of excluding several deserving players from induction to Cooperstown. In particular Barry Bonds, Roger Clemens, Curt Schilling and Sammy Sosa did not receive the needed 75% of the vote to qualify for the Hall of Fame. This marks a major failure for the Hall of Fame and the BBWAA. Beyond that, the Baseball world is outraged that David O
BBWAA Do Your Job; Vote Tiant and Evans into Cooperstown
Every time I go to Fenway Park they often celebrate a Red Sox legend with a video montage and a standing ovation. Fred Lynn, Carlton Fisk, Dwight Evans or Luis Tiant often are those Sox legends being honored. I never watched any of them play a single game but I know of their playing days as well as I do the current players. I know all their stats and accomplishments because baseball statistics fascinate me. One thing about baseball statistics they don’t lie and what they tell me is “El Tiante” a
Bonds and Clemens Never Will Reach Cooperstown
Two of baseballs greatest legends will be on the Hall of Fame ballot later this year for the seventh year in a row. Barry Bonds has the most home runs in the history of baseball and Rodger Clemens has won more Cy Young awards than any other pitcher in history. What has prevented them from getting a plaque in Cooperstown is that both Clemens and Bonds are highly likely to have taken steroids throughout their careers to enhance their game. Steroids have been banned from baseball since 1991, and is
Juiced Baseballs
Since 2014 there has been a massive increase in the amount of home runs hit in the MLB. The last three seasons there has been more home runs than there was in the steroid era. Guys are not hitting 60-70 home runs like the steroid days but we are seeing a lot more total home runs hit around baseball then ever before. A popular theory on why we are seeing this home run increase is that MLB has juiced the baseballs. It’s been a suspicion for quite awhile now that pitchers strongly believe that base

Defending Dave Roberts and Clayton Kershaw
I have often said that Dave Roberts is the best manager in baseball. After game 5 of the NLDS my opinion is not a popular one. Clayton Kershaw is without a doubt one of the best pitchers of this generation. Three Cy Young awards and five ERA titles, Kershaw is destined for Cooperstown. The idea of "fans" running over his jersey in the parking lot after he blows a two run lead in an elimination game is horrible. There is nobody who feels worse about this loss than him. Postseason Kershaw Narrativ
Benny Biceps is back and he's not going anywhere
2019 has been the most disappointing season of Andrew Benintendi’s young career. He was one of the Red Sox most hyped prospects in recent years and even ranked #1 in baseball by MLB.com heading into the 2017 season. He became an instant fan favorite for being a natural ball player with Steve Harrington type hair and one of the smoothest left handed swings you will ever see. He has been a very good left fielder but people have always wanted more out of the prospect who had great expectations. Thi
