Much of the most popular music produced during this decade was of the Jazz style. Some of the most memorable Jazz musicians of this time were Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, Bing Crosby, Sammy Davis Jr., Miles Davis, Ray Charles, and Billie Holiday.
The explosion of new popular Jazz music in the 1950's was created by the rationing of everyday commodities during the second World War. Because everyone was working to produce war materials and could not buy much, once the war ended people had enough savings that musicians could produce music and have a market to sell it to.
