The Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) is a free government application that allows students from all walks of life to apply for Federal Student Aid.
It is an easy process, once started it takes at most 20 Minutes to complete, 30 Minutes if you create the FSA ID and then complete the FAFSA.
The FAFSA will provide both grants and government loans for education, these avenues are more affordable and better in the long run to reduce the amount of student debt that you will have.
The 2021-2022 FAFSA opens on October 1, 2020. The Michigan Priority Deadline is March 1, 2021. Here are some things you (graduating seniors) should be doing now:
1. Create your student FSA ID
2. Have your parent create their FSA ID or if you have an older sibling that went to college, make sure your parent can still login.
3. Gather the required documents for FAFSA completion.
4. E-mail Ms. Clark at elizabeth.clark@merps.org for an appointment time slot where you and your parent(s) can get help in completing the FAFSA if needed.
October 1st - FAFSA Opens
FAFSA Workshops - TBD
March 1st - FAFSA Closes
Before you can even start the FAFSA, you will need to create an FSA ID. An FSA ID, is your username to log into the FAFSA, along with sign it! You will need you Social Security Number (SSN) to do this!
The students will create one, however the parent/guardian will need to as well. If you have never completed a FAFSA before or registered for an account, the parent/guardian will need to create one as well. If you have an FSA ID, you do not need to create another one.
Make sure to write down (paper or phone) your username/password. Trust me it helps!
*If FAFSA is asking you to pay, do not proceed and reach out to immediately!
