Welcome to my web page! I have been a part of the Meridian community since I started teaching freshmen English in August 1999. (I did teach at Millikin from 2006-2012, but Meridian is my real home.) Throughout the years I have taught U.S. History, World Religions, World History and senior English, but my favorite classes are those I teach in Family and Consumer Sciences! Come and see me if you'd like to learn more about my Foods I/II, Food Science, Food History, Foods III/IV, Child Development, Adult Living, or Clothing classes, or our NEW Work-Based Learning Program!
Traveling gives me great joy. I was lucky enough to travel with EF to Rome and Athens in 2018, Barcelona in 2019, and I led a group to Dublin, London, Paris, and Normandy in June 2024. Our next trip is to Germany, Austria, and Switzerland in June 2026! I can't wait to experience new food and cultures again!
In January 2020, I enrolled in Richland Community College's Culinary Arts Program. While I didn't finish the degree, I learned many advanced culinary skills to bring to my foods students...I think it is incredibly important to pursue one's passions, and I am extremely lucky to have a very supportive family who sees the value in life-long learning.
Finally, I try very hard to model what I teach. I believe we are too far removed from where our food comes from, so I use my personal experiences to help my students. Every summer we have a large garden and I can or freeze the produce for our family. We have chickens for both eggs and meat, honey bees, pigs, I bake our bread weekly, and I firmly believe homemade is ALWAYS better. :)
