Around our Room

2022-2023 School Year

Happy first day of 3rd grade!!

We have been working with three digit numbers and rounding! Today we took what we have learned and made place value donuts! Each student was given a number, they had to write it in expanded form, word form, round it to the nearest ten and to the nearest hundred!

Grandparent's Day!

We had an amazing morning with grandparents! It was so great to have grandparents back for the first time since COVID!

STEM Challenge!

We have been reading Pop's Bridge, a story about a boy whose father was a worker on the Golden Gate Bridge. Today I challenged students in groups of three or four to create their own bridge. Their bridge had to hold more animal erasers than any other group to win! Congratulations to our winners; Luke, Charlie, and Kathryn!

2021-2022 School Year

We created place value donuts to go along with our place value and rounding unit in math. Students were given a three digit number and they  needed to add the correct amount of "sprinkles." (ones cubes, tens rods, and hundreds flats)

Getting in some outdoor addition practice using our white boards!

Our class pets! We are learning about the life cycle of mealworms. One of our classmates caught a tree frog at recess so he has also become our class pet!

We worked on building bridges to go along with our story, Pop's Bridge, which is about the Golden Gate Bridge. Students were given 10 pieces of paper per team and attempted to make the bridge that could support the most weight!

The winner!

Built by Kaia, Elijah, and Ruby!

Since we are learning about communities in Social Studies, we took a walk around town! We talked about the different people and buildings within our community, had extra recess at the park and even named a few when we returned to the classroom!

walk-a-thon!!

Students researched facts about bats to go along with our story for the week, Bat Loves The Night. They also created and presented their very own slide shows!

Fire safety day! The Blue Mound Fire Department talked to our class about what to do if they are ever in a fire. We were also able to climb in the fire trucks and look around!
