MHS Speech and Debate Team

Welcome to the Digital Home of

the Mentor High Speech and Debate Team!

The Speech and Debate Team trains students to compete in various public speaking events against area high school students. Competitions (tournaments) are usually on Saturdays, beginning at the end of October and running through the first week of March. Usually about 30 schools or 500ish students compete at a tournament. Awards are given to individuals, recognizing outstanding performances, and to schools, recognizing outstanding team accomplishments.

At Mentor High School, the Speech and Debate Team is coached by Mrs. Coleman and Ms. Roediger. The team begins meeting in the fall and meets weekly as necessary throughout the competition season. The activity is open to all students who are interested in participating.

Team members are expected to compete eight times during this season. With three tournaments every month from November to February, students should be prepared to commit to two tournaments each month. All students should plan to compete or work at the Mentor Tournament (November 20) and two district tournaments in February.
