Things To Do On A Rainy Day

By Mia F.

May 2021 Issue

Are you ever contemplating what to do on a rainy day? Well, you’ve come to the right place for help! Keep reading to find out some things to do on those gloomy days!

Make a Fort

One of the things I like to do on a rainy day is making a fort. I know, pretty generic... Anyways, there are many places you can make the fort, whether that is in your bedroom or living room. You will always use the same supplies. To make a fort you will need pillows for covering the blankets or tape would work the same, blankets for covering over the fort, any stable furniture in the room you’re choosing to make the fort in (couch, chair, bed, etc), decorations for inside the forts, and much more.

Dance Party

Yes, I do this too. All you would need for this is any sort of way to listen to music, yourself or other family members, and any room to dance in! I would suggest cranking the music up and just letting yourself be free and dance.

Karaoke

Just like a dance party, all you need is any sort of way to listen to music, yourself, or other people, any way to sing, and if you want a computer to look up karaoke on youtube. I would suggest singing your heart out!

Art and Crafts

Honestly, with this one, you can do whatever your mind thinks. Throw on some relaxing music and do some art! All you need is your mind for this one!

Read

I know, this sounds super boring. But if you just throw on some relaxing music, grab any book you want to read, find a comfortable place to sit, and just read. It's very relaxing.

There are many more things but I don’t want to bore you with a whole list. So just do whatever comes to your mind in the first place!

Recommended Movies for Your Time Spent at Home

Opinion by Mia F.

March 2021 Issue

Ever since COVID started, all families have been at home, which means you're stuck at home. Well my family has been watching some movies. Here are some movies I recommend watching! (The list will be from Sports to a little bit more maturer content. Always ask your parents if it’s okay to watch the movie before watching.)

Some sports movies to watch and where to find them:

  • The Mighty Ducks, D2, and D3. A brief synopsis of them all is that the team The Mighty Ducks started off being a not-so-great hockey team, but made their way through the ups and downs. They end up becoming a really good team. Yes, these are all about the same team but they are all really good. You can watch the movies on Disney+ with a subscription.

  • The Sandlot. The Sandlot is about a young boy named Scotty Smalls, a science lover, who moves to a new town and makes friends with a group of boys who play baseball. However, things start to go downhill when the baseball they are playing with goes over the fence into the yard of the big dog next door. You can find this movie on Hulu.

Here are two good musicals to watch:

  • Hamilton. Hamilton is a PG-13 musical that takes on the life story of Alexander Hamilton. You can find the musical on Disney+.

  • Newsies. They have a movie and a broadway musical version of this musical. Newsies is about a group of boys called the “Newsies,'' who sell newspapers. But the leader of the “Newsies” is a criminal, so when two boys join the group they have to help a criminal. You can also find this musical on Disney+.

Here is a great movie series:

  • Harry Potter. If you have read the books, you should watch the movies. They are pretty good but they aren’t entirely like the books, you will find some details missing out. You can buy or rent them.

These are just some of the many movies you could watch. There are a ton more that you could explore.

A Pumpkin or Apple Craft

By Elizabeth P.

October 2020 Issue

Materials Needed

  • Paper plate

  • Red or orange yarn

  • Brown yarn

  • Green construction paper

  • Hole puncher

  • Scissors

  • Pencil (possibly)

  • Tape

Instructions

  1. Take the paper plate, and puncture a hole somewhere in the middle. Use the hole, and cut out the rest of the middle.

  1. After that, hole punch once on the rim of the plate. Then, ignore the hole punch. Start wrapping the red or orange yarn around the plate as seen above (tape the end to the plate), until satisfied. DO NOT COVER THE HOLE PUNCH!!!

  1. Then, take your brown yarn, and cut a 12-inch piece. Put half of it through the hole punch. Create a knot with the two ends, and now you have a stem! (Use stem for hanging purposes.)

  1. Pumpkin: Cut a long, thin, strip of green construction paper, and wrap around the pencil. Take it off, and cut in the length that you want it. Tape it to the plate next to the stem, and you’re done! Apple: Take the construction paper, and cut a small football shaped size. Tape it to the plate by the stem. You are done!!!

DIY Washi Tape School Supplies Makeover

By Sophie V.

December 2018 Issue

In this DIY tutorial, I will be showing you how to give your school supplies a cute and easy makeover using washi tape! Washi tape is colorful, decorative tape that you can buy almost anywhere. I have found it at Target, Jo Ann’s Fabrics, Walmart, and many other stores. Washi tape is very inexpensive, and simple to use. You can decorate almost anything with it! Today, I am going to show you how to spice up a notebook, pencil, and bookmark using washi tape. These are great to use at school, to sell, or give as gifts. It can be customized for anyone. You will need:

  • Notebook

  • Pencil

  • Paper clip

  • Washi Tape

  • Scissors

Washi Tape Notebook-

  1. First, cover your notebook with strips of washi tape. Have fun with this- you can go as wild or as plain as you choose.

  2. Next, put a border of washi tape on the top, bottom, and right side of the notebook. This will make it look cleaner and more professional.

3. Finally, open your notebook and put a strip of washi tape on the binder holes on the cover. This is to avoid tape sticking on the pages.

Washi Tape Pencil-

  1. Cut a strip of washi tape that is as long as your pencil and put it on the pencil.

Next, cut another piece of waste tape that is the same length and stick it on the uncovered part of the pencil.

Washi Tape Bookmark-

  1. Cut a 3 inch piece of washi tape and push it through the top of a paper clip. Stick the ends of the washi tape together.

  2. Cut off the sticky parts and create a fun design on the top of your bookmark.

There are your finished school supplies! This is a easy way to create fun, personalized school supplies. Stay tuned til next issue for another amazing DIY!
