During the summer of 2021, approximately 84 Melrose Public School educators collectively worked on this definition of social emotional learning...
Within the Melrose Public Schools community, we believe that social emotional learning is the lifelong process of creating and sustaining a safe and brave learning environment for both students and adults. We believe that social emotional learning is transformational and encourages our students and adults to explore their identity and agency, understand and manage their emotions, develop empathy and relationships with others, and to continuously reflect on the process and impact of their decision making. In Melrose Public Schools, we believe that social emotional learning is a whole child approach where skills are both explicitly taught and embedded in learning that extends beyond the classroom walls.
