Join us at Melrose Abbey Memorial Park for a heartfelt and culturally rich celebration of All Souls Day and Dia de los Muertos with our Ofrenda and Grave Decoration Contest! Open to all local visitors, this event is a unique opportunity to honor loved ones in a meaningful way while showcasing your creativity. Whether you are decorating an ofrenda or a gravesite, you’ll be part of a beautiful tribute that blends tradition, remembrance, and community spirit.
How to Participate
Participation is simple! Register by October 29th to secure your spot in the contest. You can start decorating as early as October 22nd at 9:00 am. If decorating a gravesite, ensure you have permission from the next of kin. Each registration must specify the exact location of your decoration, so be sure to register each gravesite separately if you plan to decorate more than one.
Decoration Guidelines
We encourage participants to create decorations that are respectful, culturally sensitive, and reflect the spirit of the season. Think vibrant marigolds, traditional papel picado, photos, and other memorabilia that honor your loved ones. Please avoid open flames, and make sure all decorations remain within your registered area to respect neighboring spaces.
Voting and Judging
Voting will take place online, and every email address can cast one vote. Voting opens on October 28th and will close on November 8th at 12:00 PM. Our winners will be chosen based on creativity, cultural significance, and overall adherence to the guidelines, with votes contributing to the final decision. Winners will be celebrated at our Fall Festival on November 9th, during a special awards ceremony immediately following the Hop Contest.
Prizes and Recognition
While there are no cash prizes, winners will receive a certificate of recognition and the honor of being featured on our website and social media platforms. It’s a wonderful chance to share your tribute with the community and celebrate the artistry of Dia de los Muertos.

This contest is more than just a competition—it’s a way to connect with others, share stories, and keep the memories of those we’ve lost alive.
