Our director, Mrs. Shimkus!

Mrs. Shimkus has been working at MELHS since 2018 and has worked with MELHS a previous year earlier in her life. She is married to Congressman John Shimkus for 32 years. She teaches band, choir, strings, and guitar. She also leads the handbell club and helps with the pit for the spring musical. In addition, she sets up and leads our Lutheran High Sundays once a month in association churches. All of her sons attended MELHS and she saw that it was, and still is, "an excellent school". In 2016, she 'retired' from her church job at Holy Cross and decided that she needed to go on a new journey. She saw that there was a job opening at MELHS, and she knew it was God asking her to come and direct! She has a background in a variety of instruments including piano, cello, clarinet, organ, and guitar. Mrs. Shimkus loves to read, garden, travel everywhere, and collect different ethnic instruments! She also has an identical twin sister that is the Kantor (music director) at St. Paul Hamel.
