Exploring Ideas in Mathematics

Lower secondary students have been investigating different ideas in Mathematics

Year 9 have been studying Pythagoras this week. They learned about his time living nearby on the island of Samos, his visit to Egypt and the school that he set up in Italy as well as his general beliefs and ideas. They also did an activity called Perigals' dissection which demonstrates the theorem named after Pythagoras before looking at how to apply the theorem.

Year 8 students have been learning how to construct shapes using a straight edge and compass. Students have been developing their psychomotor skills through the use of mathematical tools for geometric construction. Year 7 students have also been learning about geometry, drawing lines, angles, triangles, and polygons. They have also used their measuring and estimating skills in this topic.
