Primary School students continue to extend their learning beyond the classroom walls. Grade 2 visited the Istanbul Archaeological Museum as they begin their unit focused on Family History entitled History Makes Me. The Preschool and PreK classes engaged in story time and creative play at Kidsnook as part of their unit om using their imagination entitled Thinking is Creating.
In 1996, the UN General Assembly invited U.N. Member States to observe the International Day for Tolerance every year on the 16th of November. Grade 3 students brainstormed on "Tolerance" and defined Tolerance as "showing respect for the differences". They concluded that "The world is rich and colorful with different people". The students are also collaborating on a project for Tolerance Day with SEV Schools. They are preparing a video and have been interviewing on what tolerance means and why being tolerant is important.
Grade 5 students invited their parents in to school to share the learning from their unit on cultural and governmental systems and how they help us organize our world. 5A students presented skits on organizational systems at MEF IS to help the school run smoothly while 5B students presented their skits on different forms of government.
The MEF IS Team dazzled onlookers for 3 days at the Junior Model United Nations (JMUN) competition in Çanakkale. In their 1st conference, Olivia Mottram and Kayra Dogru were awarded the best delegate on their respective committees, and Rishita Vashistha earned an outstanding delegate award. Congratulations! The MEF IS Team have been using debate and research skills at the Madrid and Toledo Model European Parliament (MEP), a training ground for future leaders and politicians while experiencing Europe’s rich diversity at this educational, cultural, and social event.
The MEF IS MUN Team analyzed and debated social, political, and economic issues in Bratislava. Students experienced a new culture and improved thinking and debating skills.

MEF University is the world’s first Flipped university. Flipped Learning inverts the traditional classroom model by introducing course concepts prior to class, allowing educators to use class time to guide students through active learning. Several MEF IS faculty members attended the Flipped Learning Summit on Tuesday to learn more about Flipped Learning.
Following success at a recent robotics competition, the MEF Thunders are now registered for a new competition in the spring. To support the Team, the NASA FIRST Robotics Competition Sponsorship Grant for 2019 was applied for by Maysam Elborgi, a Grade 11 student who serves as PR Director, as she completed a financial plan and application, which was accepted by the Fikret Yüksel Institution.
