Here are some ways you can help support your child's Math learning at home.
As part of the weekly homework sheet, I will ask you to reinforce some skills we are learning at that time in the classroom. This should take no more than 10 minutes per day. I will usually provide something like flashcards or give an easy activity that does not require any items.
Here are some goals for your child's learning this year:
First Grade Counting Goals:
Count to 120
Count beginning at any number to 120 (example start counting on from 34)
Count by 10's to 100
Count by 5's to 100
Give the number 1 bigger than a number (example what's 1 bigger than 62)
Give the number 1 smaller than a number (example what's 1 smaller than 85)
Give the number 10 bigger than a number (example what's 10 bigger than 73)
Give the number 10 smaller than a number (example what's 10 smaller than 51)
First Grade Addition/Subtraction Goals:
Add 2 numbers within 20
Subtract 2 numbers within 20
Add 3 single-digit numbers together (example 7+3+2)
Add 2 two-digit numbers together without regrouping (example 32+24) no carrying needed!
Subtract 2 two-digit numbers without regrouping (example 24-13) no borrowing needed!
First Grade Money Goals:
Identify the 4 coins and tell their values (example penny- 1 cent)
First Grade Time Goals:
Identify analog clock times to the hour and half hour
First Grade Measurement Goals:
Correctly measure an object using centimeters
First Grade Geometry Goals:
Identify 2D shapes (example triangle) and tell how many sides it has
Identify 3D shapes (example cylinder) and tell how many edges and corners it has
