Masterminds and Quiz Bowl 

MasterMinds 

Is a quiz bowl-style academic competition for high school students.  Matches are played in eight question halves with each school playing four students at a time.  Students must buzz in and be recognized before answering.  Correct answers earn that player’s team ten or 15 points and the opportunity for the team to answer three 10-point bonus question. The questions cover a broad range: art, biology,chemistry, current events, geography, history, literature, music, political science, pop culture, religion and sports. There are currently three teams competing, a Varsity, a Junior Varsity and a Middle School team. Our current league consists of Albion, Elba, Holley, Kendall, and Pembroke. Last year the Varsity team won their division title and finished fourth overall in the Rochester playoff bracket finishing behind Pittsford Sutherland, Webster Schroeder and Fairport. Quiz Bowl

Students on the Varsity MasterMinds team also compete in Scholastic Bowl on WLVL radio. About once a week, three students compete in a contest against two other schools in a trivia contest of general knowledge. Students buzz in to answer questions against teams from Akron, Lockport, North Tonawanda, Roy-Hart, Starpoint, and Wilson. Medina’s Quiz Bowl team has matches on 1/17, 1/18, 1/19, 1/24, 1/31,2/01, 2/15, 3/01, 3/07, 3/08, 3/16, and 3/21. Each match starts at 5:00. Last year, Medina won the championships in 2022 and currently is in 1st place with half the season complete.
