How do I know if my child should work with you?
The simple answer: call me, and let's chat! A child may see me for many reasons, including the following:
school related problems
friendship concerns and problems
handling new situations
understanding anxious feelings, and working through them
resolving conflicts
celebrating success and accomplishments
finding community information & resources
family concerns
celebrating happy occasions
death/loss or serious illness concerns
managing emotions
any other area of concern
What do you do as a School Social Worker?
I do many things throughout the day! Every day is different for me. Here are some of the things I do:
provide individual and small group education counseling
conducts classroom guidance lessons
assists parents in helping their children achieve (emotional, behavior, and educational success)
participates in PBIS team
consults with teachers to meet student needs
consults with outside agencies such as Human Services, Therapists, and other area resources
How does a child see the Social Worker?
I work with students based on:
teacher referral
parent referral
student self-referral
Child Study Team referral
IEP referral
Principal referral
What is your goal when working with students?
I will create an individual goal with the student to best meet their needs! Here are some things we may work toward:
building positive self-esteem
developing healthy relationships
respecting and appreciating others
understanding and expressing feelings
resolving conflicts and setting goals
making healthy choices
building positive school behaviors
coping with difficult changes
working in groups
developing problem-solving skills
learning to work and play with others
All information shared with the Social Worker is confidential unless: 1) Someone is planning to harm him/herself or others; 2) Someone is the victim of abuse or neglect. In these situations, I am required by law to report this information to parents and/or the appropriate agencies.
