Mr. Peterson

Hello

I am Bruce Peterson and I am the high school intervention specialist. It sounds very professional but do not let the name scare you, what I do is help students who may need a little extra help remain on track or get back on track. It is not a lie when I say this, but I struggled to stay on track when I was in high school and that is why when this position came up I applied for it. I think if you struggle in a subject that does not mean you are a bad student it just means you need some extra help and that is where I welcome anyone to come to my room for that extra help. I may not be able to answer all your questions but together we will work to find the answer.

A little about myself, I love to hike, camp, and spend time walking outdoors. Most of my free time is spent hiking the Ice Age Trail around the area, and occasionally getting lost on what I thought was the Ice Age Trail. I visited a few state parks last summer and found that Wisconsin is full of amazing places. All the walking I do has got me in decent shape but my love of chicken wings has kept me from being in great shape. My wife is a special education teacher here at the high school, my daughter is a science teacher at RVA, and my son just got hired as the social studies teacher here this year. The funny thing is, my daughter was a teacher before both my wife and I as this is my third year teaching and second at my current position which I love. I spent five years as a paraprofessional at the high school before I got hired as a special education teacher at the middle school and now I am back here at the high school.

"I've come to a frightening conclusion that I am the decisive element in the classroom. It's my personal approach that creates the climate. It's my daily mood that makes the weather. As a teacher, I possess a tremendous power to make a child's life miserable or joyous. I can be a tool of torture or an instrument of inspiration. I can humiliate or heal. In all situations, it is my response that decides whether a crisis will be escalated or de-escalated and a child humanized or dehumanized."
