Choate island was inhabited by Native Americans but eventually taken over by Europeans for farming purposes in the 1630s. The first of the Choate family was John Choate. He immigrated from England and in April 1665, had gotten a share of what was then Hog Island but now referred to as Choate Island. Built in 1730, the Choate house held countless of Choates such as John Choate's wife, Anne Carramas, his four sons, and four daughters. Overall, Choate island, owned by the Trustees of Reservation, is a historical piece of land that is filled with a background of slavery in which made Choate island successful and will be unfolded in the previous sections of this website.
