Book Review: Great Expectations
Great Expectations follows the life of Pip, who at the beginning of the book starts as a boy and by the end, is a young man. The story opens with Pip, whose parents are both deceased, and who lives with his demanding and rude older sister. Readers) know her as Mrs. Joe. Mrs. Joe’s husband, known by Pip as Joe, is a blacksmith and gets along well with Pip. The book is told through Pip’s eyes. The inciting incident of the story happens when Pip runs into an escaped convict, who forces him to bring back food and tools. The story progresses, and Pip visits Miss Havisham through Pumblechook, a friend of his family, and Pip falls in love with Estella, the adopted daughter of Miss Havisham... You Live in Me: A Short Story
“Today was a good day!” Caroline said cheerfully.
“Mhm, it was lovely,” Charlotte said sarcastically.
Caroline frowned at Charlotte’s words, then said, “Is something wrong?
Charlotte shook her head, “No, just all the tests and homework are stressing me out.”
Oh,” Caroline said, “Well then, why don’t we go watch a movie? It’ll help you relax.”
Charlotte hesitated, but then she looked at Caroline’s hopeful expression and gave in. After all, she did deserve a break.
“Okay,” Charlotte agreed.
As the girls headed towards the cinema, they both felt a strange feeling.
“Do you feel as if-,” Caroline started.
“Something is wrong?” Charlotte interrupted, “because I sure as heck do.”
“It feels creepy,” Caroline said, “It’s probably nothing though.”
They fell silent and continued walking.
“Caroline?” Charlotte suddenly said, nervousness lining her voice.
“Yeah?” Caroline asked.
“Caroline, behind you.”
Caroline turned around, and for the first time realized the two strangers that were following them. She started running ahead and motioned for Charlotte to follow her.
“We need to get rid of them,” Caroline said.
They heard movement behind them and saw that the strangers were starting to run to keep up with the girls.
Caroline hesitated.
And then suddenly, Charlotte screamed... (Finish the story in our next edition).
