Miss Kassis--Writing

About Me

This is my second year teaching at Stagebarn and my first year teaching a core English class! I may have had your student last year in 5th grade for one of my elective classes, and I am excited about seeing them again! I am passionate about literature and writing, and I’m looking forward to being able to share these passions with my students! Writing is such a crucial skill for communication and self expression, so my ultimate goal for this class is for students to both hone their writing skills and find an enjoyment in the craft. Outside of school. I like reading, writing stories (of course!), and at any given time I can be found working on one of my many art projects. I look forward to helping students work on their writing skills in this upcoming school year!

Hard Due Dates:

Midterm:

Quarter end: 18 March 2022

Ms. Kassis's Classroom Policies

Late Work Policy

The quarter is split into two sections--midterm and end of quarter. I will take late work from the first half of the quarter up until the midterm date (written on my whiteboards and discussed with students). After the midterm date, I will no longer take late work from the first half of the quarter. The same policy applies to the second half of the quarter. The work will be marked as "Late" in the grade book, even after it has been turned in and graded. If a student is turning in late work, it will be placed on my desk so I can update the grade book ASAP. HOWEVER, students are still expected to turn in their work on time! All due dates for the week are listed both below and on the whiteboard in my classroom.

No Name Policy

There is a no name basket located in the back right corner of my classroom. It is labeled "No Name." If I find that there is no name on a paper while I am grading, the paper will be graded and placed in this basket. I will leave a note in the grade book (along with a "Missing" flag) asking the student to check the no name basket. If a student hands in a no name paper after the due date, it will not be counted as late.

Other Information

What are binder checks and why do you have them?

Students need to have a binder and THREE divider tabs for my class. The dividers are to be labeled as "Notes," "Handouts," and "Work." Students are to keep all of their resources for my class in their binders behind the appropriate tab. Randomly throughout each quarter, I will conduct binder checks. Binder checks are where I walk around the room and ask students to show me their binders. The checks are worth 10 points each and are based off of whether students are keeping their binders tidy and organized.
