Education Opportunities

Visual & Performing Arts

Students receive 40 minutes of Art instruction every other week at BHP. The structure of most classes is to take the first few minutes of class to learn about a famous artist, his/her style as well as a bit of culture and history that affected the artist. After learning about the artist, students imitate his/her art using a variety of mediums and techniques. Art work is graded on a simple scale of 1 to 3. Students receive a point for following directions, a point for giving best effort, and a bonus point if the student shows originality/creativity.

At BHP students experience Music through a variety of explorations as they develop a firm foundation. In class, we sing, play instruments, move, and play games all while learning musical concepts. All students participate in musical performances! Students are able to participate in additional Music activities such as Star Singers, Talent Show, Created Instrument Contests, All-County Choir, and learning to play Recorders.

The Junior Achievement's (JA) elementary school programs has 6 sequential themes and each with 5 hands-on activities to help students change lives by helping them understanding business and economics. 3rd grade explores JA City; how to manage money and the importance of economic exchange within a city. 2nd grade explores JA Community; production methods, taxes, decision making, and how money flows in an economy. 1st grade explores Families; ways families plan for and acquire goods and services. Students will also analyze their own skills to determine ways they can support their families. Kindergarten explores JA Ourselves; learn about individual choices, money, the importance of saving and giving, and the value of work.

Health & Physical Education

Physical Education class at Barry Hahn Primary is meant to be very engaging, dynamic, and challenging for all of our students. The curriculum in Physical Education follows the state standards health and physical education to develop lessons and ideas to let students explore and improve motor skills, coordination, fitness, and spatial awareness. Topics in health are also integrated throughout the year including body systems and nutrition. Our students also complete the Fitnessgram fitness testing program in the spring and fall to be aware of their strengths and weaknesses regarding their fitness level. Finally, our program supports the American Heart Association by participating in their Heart Health Challenge by hosting a Jump Rope for Heart event.

Media & Digital Citizenship

Our Student Technology Coordinator (STC) and Library Media Specialist (LMS) provide media services to students. This includes keyboarding skills, various technology skills, and digital citizenship. Digital Citizenship is a set of behaviors and standards to practice while utilize technology. Our students will learn how to be safe on the internet, online etiquette, cyber bullying, copy right laws and more. Our goal at BHP is to keep our students safe and secure online.
