I was born and raised in Orange County, CA where I lived with my family (mom and dad, older brother, younger sister, and 4 cats) until graduating from high school.
In high school, I played volleyball, competed on the track team (long & triple jump events), played piano, and volunteered in the community. I was also part of the IB (International Baccalaureate) program and graduated with the Full IB Diploma.
After high school graduation, I went to UC Berkeley, where I studied English and minored in Education. Throughout college I tutored first-generation college-bound students at the local YMCA – this is where my passion for teaching began. After working with the Berkeley Y-Scholars and Youth and Government programs for a few years, I transitioned to working with the Mills College Upward Bound Program in Oakland. Ultimately I decided the best way to support students was from inside a classroom. I graduated from Stanford University's Teacher Education Program and spent my first 7 years teaching in San Francisco at Gateway High School. This is my 3rd year teaching at YVHS.
My family and I now live in Walnut Creek. I've been married for 9 years to my husband, Michael. Our children are Chapter (yes, like a chapter book!, 6) and Caleigh (pronounced "Kay-la", 4). This summer Chapter and Caleigh learned to swim and ride their bikes! When I'm not teaching, you can find me exercising, catching up with family and friends, reading, or chasing my kiddos.
In my first year at YVHS I worked with students to start a Speech & Debate Club. That club is now in it's 3rd year and is looking for new members! I also co-Advise our CSF and Leos Club on campus with Ms. Loar.
This summer my husband and I traveled to Seoul, South Korea. Below you can find us sight-seeing at the border between North and South Korea (in the demilitarized zone, aka "DMZ"), as well as eating street food in the Myeongdong district of Seoul. Yum!
