Ygnacio Valley High School is proud and excited to offer International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme courses. These courses are for 16 to 18 year-olds, taken in the 11th and 12th grades. IB courses emphasize critical thinking and understanding content from an international as well as local perspective. All IB courses provide a thorough preparation for college-level academics while developing other aspects to being a lifelong learner such as community engagement,
creative pursuits, and maintaining an active lifestyle. At YVHS, there are two programs to choose from, each offering different advantages that should meet most students’ academic goals and needs.
DIPLOMA PROGRAMME CANDIDATE (path to International Baccalaureate Diploma)

This is a college prep, career-oriented three-year program for students interested in the healthcare field. Students need to be motivated and attend class regularly. Students in Health Science Academy are all members of HOSA, a Career Technical Student Organization. All Health Academy courses integrate HOSA curriculum and activities. The Academy classes include small class size, individual attention, off campus field trips, guest speakers, and job shadowing. There is a special emphasis on exploration of career and college choices. Applications for this program are accepted in Spring for incoming 10th and 11th grades. The Academy features:

The Project Lead the Way (PLTW) engineering program at Ygnacio Valley High School was designed to build a strong foundation for college and career for students interested in engineering and trades. The program’s course engages students in compelling, real-world challenges that not only build knowledge and skills in engineering, but also empower students to develop essential skills such as problem solving, critical and creative thinking, communication, collaboration and perseverance.
