In this course, students will be introduced to the design thinking process and learn how to use the various tools of a fabricator. Students will build their creative confidence as they develop design thinking mindsets and design skills (research, observation, interviewing, data analysis, writing, collaboration, critical thinking, fabrication, visual communication). Projects will allow for tool certification with hand and power tools, making with wood and metal, experience with 3D printing, VR design, and laser fabrication.
In Design Thinking, we generally design for others. We are also always looking for the best solution that fits our users needs. We really try to keep our own biases in check.
This builds on the "NOT about you" mindset. we will trust the data we have collected through our Empathy phase.
Sometimes we don't know where the process might take us. We need to learn to embrace the fact that we may not always know where the process will take us.
We will learn more from failing and restarting. Learn to love your failures because of how much you learned from it.
When we are working together on a project, we will build on others ideas not knock them down.
Know where you are in the process and stay focussed on that.
