Watch this short video to learn about food waste, why it matters, and how small choices at lunch can make a difference at our school.
Every day, edible food is thrown away in school cafeterias across the country. When food is wasted, it wastes the water, energy, labor, and resources used to produce it. Additionally, food waste in landfills creates methane, a powerful greenhouse gas.
By making small changes, like only taking what we’ll eat or saving unopened items, we reduce our environmental impact.
Only take what you know you’ll eat
Ask friends before throwing away unopened food
Separate compostable food scraps (if bins are available)
Spread awareness
