Beta Beta Chapter has several special projects that members actively endorse and participate in each year.
Another literacy project that Beta Beta Chapter continues to support is the Imagination Library. Beta Beta member Donna Jerden serves as director, and another member, Barbara Summers, is the treasurer of the Imagination Library of Morgan County. Members rescue undeliverable books, register children, distribute books, and encourage donations for the program.
Several years ago, Beta Beta Chapter began a program to promote creativity in the classroom by offering two $100 mini-grants to teachers in the Morgan County School System. Beta Beta members and non-members are eligible to apply. There is an application process and recipients provide follow-up after the completion of the project.
In an effort to encourage graduating female seniors who plan on entering the field of education, Beta Beta Chapter provides an award that may be presented at each of the four high schools in the county. This award consists of a computer flash drive and a mentoring program for the female students. Beta Beta members at each of the schools will select the recipient by February, and the future educators will be invited to the April meeting. Each participant, beginning her sophomore year in college, will receive an annual $250 scholarship if she continues in the education field.
