Hello everyone,

I want to start by welcoming you to fifth grade. I have known many of you since you first became a student at Johnson Elementary School, six years ago. It has been a joy to watch you all grow and change throughout the years. This is my 16th year at JES and my fourth year teaching fifth grade. I love reading mysteries and historical fiction and I especially enjoy crossword puzzles. I also like baking treats and drinking coffee. My husband and I have two daughters, named Emma and Abby. We have two dogs; a yellow lab named Bailey and a silver lab named Charlie. We also have two rabbits, named Pongo and Judy Hopps. We enjoy camping and kayaking, playing board games, listening to music and watching movies. My girls and I also love to craft and paint and create!!!

I know some of you are wondering...what is happening with Mrs. Braaten? Let me fill you in a bit. This Summer I was painting at my home and fell off a step stool. When I landed, I fractured my tibia (my shin bone) and tore my ACL (an important ligament). I have been in a leg brace since June, with absolutely no weight on my knee. The doctor is waiting for my fracture to heal, before deciding if I will need surgery. It is healing, but slowly. As Dr. Seuss says, "Progress is Progress!"

I am confident that you are be in the best of hands with Mrs. Whitcomb, while I'm away. Thank you for your grace and patience.
