Constant difference- the basic concept is that you can use friendly numbers to make subtraction easier. You are not changing the amount that is being taken or the beginning amount, just shifting the numbers on a number line to make the problem easier to solve.
Some vocabulary:
Minuend- the first number in a subtraction problem
Subtrahend- the number being taken away in a subtraction problem
Difference- the answer in a subtraction problem
Example: 12-8=4
12 is the minuend, 8 is the subtrahend, and 4 is the difference
Check your answers on page 88 against a calculator. Divide the numerator by the denominator to find the decimal form of your fractions.
