Classroom Policies

Ms. Mason's Class' Social Contract

This is our class’ Social Contract. It was created by the students as an agreement on how to treat everyone in class; even during disagreements.

Absent/Tardy

PLEASE let the office know if your child is going to be absent. The office phone number is 970-249-2514. If your child is getting home another way from the usual, please send a note or call the office before 2:30 pm. This helps us ensure your child’s safety.

Grading Policy

Many in-class assignments will not receive a grade. Your grade will be based primarily on tests, quizzes, in-class independent work, and projects. We feel that this is a better reflection of what you truly know. As in the past all grades are a 1-4 system with a 3 being at grade (5th) level.

Make-Up Work

You will have two days for every day missed to make up assignments. If you know about an absence ahead of time, your parents need to fill out a form in the office saying you will be gone. If you have to be quarantined and are still able to work you will be expected to complete work in a remote setting until you are able to rejoin your class.

Report Cards

Report cards are sent home every 9 weeks. Please sign the envelope and return it to school.

Homework

You can expect math homework pages twice a week that will stay in the students’ Bridges Homework book as well as being posted on Google Classroom; there will be no homework on Fridays. Also, we use a program called Khan Academy that provides extra, level-based, practice of math; thus, we encourage students to do 15 minutes of it on the weekdays that they do not have math homework. Additionally, your student should be reading at home. We expect students to read 100 minutes per week to reach their weekly reading goal. All homework will be record by students into their ‘Note’ app and can be viewed by parents on this website under the assigned weeks, as well as reading logs will be documented and collected in Google Classroom. Parents please have your students complete their weekly reading amount and record it within their Google Classroom by Friday. All homework will be due every Friday through books or Google Classroom. Furthermore, you should be studying the weekly vocabulary words and any work you do not finish in class.

Electronics

If you bring your cell phone to school, turn it off and leave it in your backpack or you may turn it into the office to keep safe. All cell phones that are out during school hours will be taken. The first time we will collect it and keep it until the end of the day when the student will get it back. Every time after the 1st it will be taken to the office and will have to be picked up by a parent. Also, please leave all toys at home. Just like electronics, toys will be collected and kept until the end of the day. If the toy problem continues we will again collect the toys and ask that a parent/guardian retrieves these at their convenience.

ClassDojo

ClassDojo is parent communication tool that we use. The Panther folder your child will received on the 1st day of school contains information about this tool. It also includes a class code and directions to set up a free account. Please sign-up and take a look at this amazing resource. We will be using it to keep you updated on information using the classroom story feature. Also, we will send quick notes and reminders using the message feature. This is a great way for you to contact us for quick questions or reminders.

Lunch

12:15 – 12:35

A student lunch costs $3.50, plus $.60 for milk. Due to physical distancing, if you would like to have lunch with your child you must pick them up in the office. No parents/guardians are allowed in the cafeteria during lunch time.

Specials Schedule

Specials this year will be different than past years. Each special (Library/Tech, P.E., Music, and Art) will be one week at a time with art and music still switching at semester.

Birthdays

We celebrate birthdays once a month as a whole class, usually on the last Wednesday of the month. This year celebrations may include a dance party, board games, or a short film. At this time parents or visitors will not be able to bring treats or join the celebration.

Water Bottles

We encourage everyone to bring a plastic water bottle with a closable lid. Water only, please! No sweet or colored drinks. No glass. All drinking fountains will be turned off building wide this year, only sinks and bottle-filling stations will be available.

Snacks

Snacks are welcome and can be eaten during our Adaptive Learning time or afternoon recess. We encourage healthy options and also ask that they be sent in containers that are a single serving. Students may not share snacks with each other.

Bathroom Policy

Students will be encouraged to use good time management skills and be asked to not leave during teacher instruction time. During student work time they may use the bathroom as needed and will be asked to sign out and signal that they are in the restroom within following classroom procedures. Only one student will be permitted to leave the classroom at a time.
