The Washtenaw County Youth Commission is a youth advocacy organization focused on helping to solve issues concerning teens in Washtenaw County. They are accepting applications for the 2025-26 year. If you are interested in applying, scan the QR code on the flyers posted around the school.
Golf Tryouts LOCATION CHANGE! moved to Shanks in Tipton at 4pm
Attention 8th, 9th, 10th, and 11th graders: The SAT and PSAT tests will be administered on Tuesday, April 8th. Like last year, all students testing will be allowed to leave to go home after the tests are completed. So, on April 8, regular lunch service will not be available. Those who leave or are picked up after testing will need to arrange their own lunch. However, students who plan to stay all day to wait for the bus or a ride must turn in a lunch order by Friday, March 21. Lunch order slips will be distributed in English classes and can be submitted to the English teacher or the office.

CONGRATULATIONS to Good Luck to SWWC Building Trades Students: Jolene Line and Sierra Jedele for bringing home 4th Place at the A2 Invitational Carpentry Competition on Tuesday, December 17th.
The Varsity Girls Basketball team got their first win of the season downing Britton-Deerfield last night 45-39. Valorie Hieber led all scorers with 16 points, followed by Jolene Line with 10 and Ava Rentfro with 9. It was a great team effort! The girls are on the road tonight as they travel to Homer. Keep up the good work girls!

Monday June 3rd
Saturday, Siera Jedele and Grant Johnson took on the best of D3 at Kent City in the State Finals and they fit right in!
-Siera took 27th in the 100m Hurdles. She was the 5th best sophomore in the State in D3! Next year we move to D4 and she is currently ranked the 6th top returner in her event for next season!
-Grant ran his second best 400m time of the season in 51.79 which was good for 17th. He is the 4th ranked sophomore in D3 in the 400m! He would be the 4th ranked returner overall in the 400m in D4.
-Grant’s second event which was back to back, in the 300m Hurdles, he took 19th overall. He is currently ranked the 3rd best returner in D4 for next season!
The future is bright for these 2 if they continue to improve and develop! They are not the only ones with big things in store for year next though. Stay tuned! Go Dutch!

Last night was the Track Conference Championship meet! We had a lot of great performances on the night, but the highlight of the night was our own Captain Lydia, competing in her first event of the season!
Overall in the final league season standings, the boys finished tied for 5th and the girls finished tied for 7th overall (out of 12 teams in the strong D3 Conference in the State!). Some standout performances from last night:

On Thursday, May 30, the cooking class will hold a Cupcake War during B lunch. For one dollar you will be able to sample 5 different cupcakes and vote for your favorites! Remember to bring a dollar on May 30 so you can participate!

Regionals were a success for the Track team! We had 19 PRs and 5 of our 7 relays ran season-best times!
But the highlight of the day was our 2 State Qualifiers:
-Grant Johnson was Regional Champion in the 400m with a PR time and he followed that up with a 3rd place finish that qualified him for States in the 300m Hurdles as well!
-Siera Jedele ran her personal best time in the 100m Hurdles and qualified for States!
Some other standout performances:
-Nathan Fletcher - PR in Disc with a 3rd place finish and a 4th place finish in Shot Put.
-Cody Branner - a 4th place finish in Disc, and a 6th place finish in Shot Put.

Last Friday night, was the 17 team EJ Dome Classic and Manchester once again had some great performances!
Grant Johnson led the way in winning the 400m in 52.23 and taking 2nd in the 300m Hurdles in 41.42 which are back-to-back events and both times were under the State meet qualifying times! We had 20 PR’s and two relay season best times! Some other standout performances include:
-Hunter Anderson - 1600m - 4:58.98 - 3200m - 10:57.96
-Alec Dodak - 1600m - 5:18.12 - 3200m - 11:45.59

Big night for the Dutch on the Track! In a race not only against Grass Lake, but also the weather, the Men’s team locked in 2nd place in the East Division with a grind it out 75.5-61.5 win. The boys finish the dual meet season with a 4-1 record! The girl’s facing arguably the strongest women’s team in the conference lost 40.33-95.67. The girls finish the dual meet season 3-2 and in 3rd place in the East Division. Lots of great performances tonight.

Monday May 6th
Super congratulations to Giana Turek for earning second place in the 2024 Congressional Art Competition for the State of Michigan's District 6. This year's competition included entries from high school students throughout this congressional district. The contest was juried by representatives from local art associations and galleries around south east Michigan. Giana took top honors with a mixed-media piece that she calls “Lucky Duck.” Her piece will hang in Representative Dingle’s office for one year. Congratulations, Giana!
On Friday, the Dutch hosted the 45th Annual Manchester Metric Relays which included 9 teams. The boys’ team nearly took home the 2nd place trophy, with 67.5 points for the meet. A strong Napoleon team won the meet, and Columbia Central took 2nd. On the girls’ side the girls had a great showing and took 5th place overall. Some highlights from the meet:
-The women’s Long Jump team of Madelyn Bennett, Abbi Austin, and Julia Gratacos Jodar took 3rd place.
-The women’s 4x1600m Relay team of Caroline Mason, Lucy Baran, Amanda Hieber, and Teagan Clarke took 2nd place and all 4 ladies ran personal best times!
-The women’s Distance Medley Relay of Madelynn Bennett, Eline Dumont, Meghan McLennan, and Caroline Mason took 3rd place.
-The women’s 4x200m Relay team of Abbi Austin, Valorie Hieber, Siera Jedele, and Gianna Turek ran a season best time of 1:55.25 which was good for 3rd place.
-The women’s Buffalo Relay team of Faith Branner, Alina Baran, Lucy Baran, and Valorie Hieber took 3rd place overall. Faith threw a personal best 73’ in the Disc!
-On the men’s side, Alexander Woods and Cade Sayer combined to take a 3rd place finish in the High Jump.
-The men’s Shot Put team of Cody Branner, Nathan Fletcher, and Mason Meyer took 2nd place. -The men’s Disc team of Cody Branner, Nathan Fletcher, and Landon LaVigne took 2nd place. Cody threw a PR of 126’9 and Nathan threw a PR of 118’2.
-The men’s 4x1600m Relay team of Hunter Anderson, Jesse Sangster, Alec Dodak, and Justin Gale took 3rd place. All 4 ran personal best times!
-The men’s Manchester Relay of Luis Baron, Mason Meyer, Jayden Johnson, and Grant Johnson took 3rd place.
-The Men’s Distance Medley team of Alec Dodak, Mason Meyer, Cade Sayer, and Hunter Anderson took 3rd.
-The men’s 4x200m Relay, in an extremely fast race, ran over a 2 second season record time of 1:35.59 for a 5th place finish, which is 1 second off qualifying for States. This team consisted of Alexander Woods, Carson Horky, Jayden Johnson, and Grant Johnson.
-The men’s 4x400m Relay team of Cade Sayer, Harper Doyle, Carson Horky, and Grant Johnson took home a 3rd place finish.

Wednesday May 1st
The Dutch Track team picked up 2 upset wins last night as they defended their home track!
The girls defeated Leslie 77-60, and the guys won 74-63. Both teams improve to 3-1 in the dual meet season!
All areas contributed but some standout performances that stood out were:
-Grant Johnson winning the Long Jump, 300m hurdles, 400m, and being anchor of the winning 4x200m relay.
-The men’s 4x800m relay of Hunter Anderson, Jesse Sangster, Morris Pengel, and Cade Sayer dropping 16 seconds and winning the race to set the tone for the meet!
-Abbi Austin winning the Long Jump and 200m, plus taking 2nd in the 100m, and running the winning anchor leg of the 4x100m Relay.
-Siera Jedele winning the 100m and 300m hurdles, plus a leg on the winning 4x100m relay team.
-Hunter Anderson taking a 2nd in the 1600m and a huge 2nd place in the 3200m run which clinched the meet for the men’s team.
-Cody Branner for taking 1st in Shot and Disc!
-Cade Sayer for dropping his time in the 800m and winning the race.
-Caroline Mason for winning the 3200m, 2nd in the 1600m, and 3rd in the high jump.
-Our distance crew with big improvements; Madelynn Bennett, Cade, and Morris in the 800m, Caroline, Amanda Hieber, Teagan Clarke, and Alec Dodak in the 1600m, and Hunter Anderson, Alec, and Lucy Baran in the 3200m!
We had 48 Personal Records which is outstanding for one meet! Go Dutch!
Monday April 29th
On Friday, the Track Team traveled to Leslie for the Blackhawk Invitational, where both the Men’s and Women’s team took 8th place. This was arguably our best showing of the season with the amount of improvement shown! Some of the highlights include:
-Grant Johnson placed 2nd in the Long Jump and 2nd in the 300m Hurdles with a time of 42.51 which is a personal best, and puts him in great position for seeding at the regional.
-Siera Jedele placed 5th in the 100m Hurdles with a time of 18.17, and the 300m Hurdles with a time of 53.44 which was good for 6th place. Both were big personal improvements
-Caroline Mason – placed 5th in the 1600m with a PR time of 6:25, and a 4th place finish in the 3200m with another big PR time of 14:28
-Cade Sayer took 7th in the 800m and dropped 4 seconds off his time by running a 2:15
-Nathan Fletcher PR’ed in the Disc with a throw of 112’ and a 5th place finish to go along with his 5th place finish in the Shot Put
-Gianna Turek placed 4th in the 200m with a PR time of 29.96
-The Men’s 4x200m Relay of Carson Horky, Mason Meyer, Jayden Johnson, and Grant Johnson took 4th place with their best time of the season at 1:37.9
-The Women’s 4x100m Relay took 2nd place with a season best time of 56.1, which consisted of Olivia Woods, Halle Parks, Siera Jedele, and Abbi Austin.
-And in the most dramatic race of the night, under the lights our 4x400m Relay team improved their time by 8 seconds to finish in 4th place overall with a team of Cade Sayer, Morris Pengel, Carson Horky, and Grant Johnson. They missed out on 2nd place by less than a second. Go Dutch!

The Flying Dutchmen Track team defended their home turf last night and dominated East Jackson 115-20 on the women’s side, and 101-35 on the men’s side! There were so many PR’s last night, but special shout outs to:
-Teagan Clarke for clearing 6’ in Pole Vault and placing in 3 events, including the back to back 2 mile and 4x4 relay!
-Amanda Hieber for stepping up and running 2 winning relay legs and placing third in the 1600m -Caroline Mason, for PR’ing in the 2 mile and winning the mile, as well as taking 2nd in high jump, and 3rd in the 100m hurdles.
-Our 800m crew of Eline Dumont, Megan McClennan, Madelynn Bennett, Ella Turek, Julia Gratacos Jodar, Cade Sayer, and Morris Pengel for all having big PR’s!
-Hunter Anderson and Alec Dodak for PR’s in the 1600m.

Monday April 22nd
On Saturday, the Track and Field team took home the 2nd place Trophy in the Coed Royal Invitational at Blissfield in cold and windy conditions! Grant Johnson was named "King of the Meet" for his 1st place finishes in the Long Jump, 300m Hurdles, 2nd in the 400m, and 3rd in the 200m.
Other highlights included, the combined 4x400m Relay teams taking first place and they consisted of Valorie Hieber, Ellie Marsh, Eline Dumont, and Gianna Turek on the women's side, and Mason Meyer, Luis Baron, Harper Doyle, and Cade Sayer on the men's side. Our High Jumpers of Alexander Woods, Carson Horky, Olivia Woods, and Caroline Mason took a combined 1st place. Nathan Fletcher, Cody Branner, Valorie Hieber, and Faith Branner took 1st in the Shot Put. Our Hurdle Turtles, consisting of Grant Johnson, Sawyer Lutton, Siera Jedele, and Valorie Hieber took a combined 1st place in the 300m Hurdles. Go Dutch!!

Attention all high school students interested in track and field! We are excited to announce that the track season will officially begin on March 11. If you did not get the sign-up in your email, please stop into the office and sign-up on the paper form. We have some optional practices starting on Thursday, February 15 from 3:45 pm to 4:45 pm. These practices will provide a great opportunity for you to get a head start and prepare for the upcoming season. If you're interested in participating or want to learn more about track and field, please be sure to look around the school for flyers with more information. If you have any questions or need further clarification, feel free to reach out to either Coach Coltre, Coach Johnson or Coach Scharpenberg. They will be more than happy to assist you. Attention all students planning on playing football in the fall. The start of the second semester begins the"The Process" for the season ahead. Those not involved in winter sports can begin training at 3:00 after school on Monday January 29th. These sessions are open to all middle school and high school players. Tuesday November 6th
The high school bowling season is quickly approaching and we're looking for students to join both the boys and girls team. Tryout practices will begin on Monday November 13 from 3:30 to 5pm at Chelsea Lanes and also Tuesday the 14th and Thursday the 16th at the same times.
All students wishing to participate on the teams are welcome. No prior experience is needed. Balls and shoes will be provided. Weekly practices are on Monday, Tuesday and Thursday 3:30 to 5pm.
Any students wishing to join or even just come and try it out must have a current MHSAA physical on file in the Athletic Office.
A sign up sheet is posted in the main office and it also has coach Sheats phone number on it if anyone has any questions.
The Manchester Flying Dutchmen Bowling teams are a great way to have a lot of fun and learn a growing sport all while earning a varsity letter.

Tomorrow is the big day! Make sure to wish Grant Johnson the best of luck as he competes at Cross Country States tomorrow at MIS in Brooklyn! The race begins at 11:30am and the cost is $11 to get in. Grant has been working hard to prepare for this moment. We are proud of all he has accomplished and we have no doubt that he will give it his all on the course. Saturday the Varsity Cross Country team competed at Regionals. A huge congratulations to Grant Johnson on securing 7th place in our region and earning a spot at States! WEDNESDAY OCTOBER 4th
Yesterday was a hot day for cross country running! Varsity boys and girls didn’t get a win but the boys really closed the gap on Leslie and made it a close meet. Congrats to Grant Johnson for winning the boys race and Hunter Anderson for taking 2nd! Middle school boys beat Leslie 15-24 with new PRs earned by Mikey O’Jack, Drew Matthies, and Joe Bailey. Also last Saturday at Stockbridge Garrett Casey set a new PR and I missed it on the announcement. Way to work Dutch! This Saturday we will be at the Hudson Booster Invitational.

The cross country team competed against 27 different teams at the Stockbridge Invitational on Saturday. Runners had many new PR's and SR's! New PR's were earned by Grant Johnson, Hunter Anderson, Jack Coluccy, Justin Gale, Michael Navitskis, Zane Sayer, Morris Pengel, Lydia Bennett, Ellis Stapelfeldt, Julia Gratacos, and Halle Parks. Grant Johnson taking 16th, Hunter Anderson 42nd, and Lydia Bennett 34th also earned medals for their hard work. The middle school cross country team also had stand out performances. Evan Johnson took 8th out of 176 boy runners, bringing home a medal, a new PR, and he now holds the 6th grade 2 mile record. Also running new PRS were Jackson King, Milo Ryan, and Noah Cajic! Great job to both the high school and middle school runners. Way to work Dutch! We have a home meet tomorrow against Leslie. Come cheer us on and GO DUTCH!

The cross country team did a great job at the Jackson Invitational Saturday! Grant Johnson medaled taking 13th. Lydia Bennett(37th) and Hunter Anderson(38th) were also very close to medal positions! We had 4 runners with new PRs Ellis Stapelfeldt, Michael Navitskis, Alec Dodak, and Morris Pengel. Last night the Dutch faced off against East Jackson on our tough home course. Sadly the varsity boys lost 32 to 23 but the girls and middle school boys had a win. New PRs were set by Zane Sayer and Morris Pengel. Congrats to Lydia Bennett who won the girls race. For middle school Evan Johnson won the boys race and new PRs were set by Mikey O’ Jack, Garrett Casey, Drew Mathies, and Rion Bednarski. Way to work Dutch!

The high school cross country girls and boys teams fell to Napoleon but beat Michigan Center last night at our first conference meet. Winning the girls race was Lydia Bennett and winning the boys race was Grant Johnson. Also congratulations to Caroline Mason, Julia Gratacos, Olivia Rojas, Grant Johnson, Justin Gale, Alec Dodak, and Milo Pengel on their new PRs!!! Many of the other runners had new season records as well, it was a great race. One final congratulations to Grant Johnson whose time placed him 9th on Manchester’s Top 10 All Time record board! Our middle school boys also fell to Napoleon but beat Michigan Center. Evan Johnson won the boys race. New PRs were set by Garrett Casey, Noah Cajic, and Rion Bednarski. Congratulations everyone! The teams travel to Ella Sharp Park this Friday and Saturday for the prestigious Jackson Invite. GO DUTCH!

This past Saturday the high school cross country team competed at the MSU invite. Over 30 teams competed in the division 3 and 4 race. Grant Johnson medaled placing 18th out of 285 runners. Ellis Stapelfeldt and Olivia Rojas both ran new PRs. The whole team had a great day at MSU. Way to work runners.

The cross country team competed at the Leslie Blackhawk Invite against 9 teams yesterday evening. Both the boys and the girls had a ton of PR's(personal records) and SR's (season records) most by a minute or more! New PR's were earned by Grant Johnson, Hunter Anderson, Jack Coluccy, Justin Gale, Zane Sayer, Michael Navitskis, Alec Dodac, Caroline Mason and Julia Gratacos. Way to run Dutch! Our next invite is at MSU this Friday.
