I'm so excited to get back into the theater with you this year! I have missed making art with my students. This is my 20th year as a theater teacher. I live in Frederick with my wife, two sons, and dog Millie. I have worked in the theatre for over 25 years in a wide variety of levels and places. These include Broadway, England, Ireland, and Nantucket. In addition to teaching at WHS, I teach masters level classes at UMBC and serve as the President for the Maryland Theater Education Association. In this roll, I work with a team of people across the state to help improve the quality and access to theater education for all students.
I have a deep background in performance and technical theatre. I have worked nearly all jobs in theater at some point in my training. As a lifelong learner, I can’t wait to learn from you and share all of my experiences and knowledge with you!
I have my BA in Directing from Marymount Manhattan College. I have a MA in Educational Theatre for Colleges and Communities from NYU. Finally, I have my Doctorate from Frostburg State University focusing on Arts Integration.
Everyone needs a hobby and I have several. My family and I love "ing" things. I try to be outside as much as possible camping, hiking, biking, and swimming. When home I enjoy reading, watching movies and TV, and finally playing and building guitars. I have built five guitars so far and have plans to make even more.
My number one job as the leader of the theatre department is to take care of you. Everyone has value in the theater department.I am here for you and our community (theatre family). As a community, my responsibility is to teach you all of the skills needed to communicate, tell amazing stories and reflect the human experience. If I do my job well, you will feel seen, and accepted. You will hopefully learn about who you are and become a better person. Finally, if all of this work goes well, the quality of our show will be outstanding as a bi-product of all of our mastered skills support of each other.
