The Walt Whitman Writing Center assists all students to improve their writing. Students are welcome to drop in or schedule an appointment. English Department Composition Assistants and trained parent volunteers provide one-on-one support to:

• review writing prompts and rubrics to clarify understanding of assignments.

• brainstorm to establish clear theses and logical supports.

• find and evaluate valid sources.

• work on organization and structure.

• incorporate meaningful textual or research support with correct parenthetical citations.

• understand research strategies and MLA style.

• improve grammar, syntax, and vocabulary.

The Writing Center is not a proofreading or a re-writing service; we work with students to help them learn to become confident, competent, and resourceful writers.
