Grade 8 students in the Southern Region who attend Thomas W. Pyle MS, Silver Creek MS, Westland MS, Eastern MS, Takoma Park MS, Newport Mill MS, Silver Spring International MS, or Sligo MS will have the opportunity to apply to a Center Program at one of the five high schools in our region. If selected, the high school offering that program would become the student’s new home school.

Students who currently attend Thomas W. Pyle MS as their home school and are interested in participating in any of the three special programs are still encouraged to apply and indicate their program of interest on the application form.

Information will be communicated through Middle School Counselors to students and their families. The application itself will be done through the High School Possibility Process in ParentVUE starting in early October. More information on applying can be found in our Admissions Section.

A Center Program is a program pathway of a four-year comprehensive high school course of study designed to prepare students in a specific theme or filed of study through integrated experiences. Each Center Program will contain the following.

• Structure Sequence - Required pathway courses delivered through a planned four-year sequence.

• Cohorted Learning - Students are enrolled with peers in the same program pathway for shared learning.

• Real-World Experience - Hands-on learning through projects, labs, field trips, and showcases.

• Co-curriculars & Extracurriculars - Clubs, competitions, performances, and work-based learning opportunities.

• External Validation - AP, IB, dual enrollment, and industry-recognized credentials.

• Culminating Experience - Final capstone projects, portfolios, or professional internships.
