Making Debut for the 2026-2027 School Year!
Did you know that Wheaton has an Ice Hockey team? Most students at Wheaton have no idea. The team is called the Silver Spring Blazers and consists of students from across the DCC. This season is looking more exciting than ever! Here’s an outlook for this season and a reason to come out and support your Wheaton hockey players.
From a conversation with the Blazer Defender and Wheaton Knight, Ethan Hedberg ‘27, we learn about what practices are like heading into the varsity season. He expressed, “Everyone’s ready for the first games… everyone has a lighthearted energy even though there's a lot of new people”. Ethan also states that he is most looking forward to, “Making states. We have a really good team this year, and if we try hard and there aren’t too many injuries, we can definitely make it.” Ethan is liking the positive and exciting energy surrounding the team and thinks this year is going to be the year we go far in the playoffs.
William Campbell ‘27, a Blazer Co-Captain and fellow Wheaton Knight, has played Varsity all four years of high school and knows what it takes for this team to be successful. He asserts how he thought the team looked before the season: “I think this is going to be our best season yet since we have a lot of returning players and exciting new players.” There are fans of the Silver Spring Blazers: “The games are very fun because of the student section. They make chants and cheer us on whenever we get a big hit or goal.” His goal this season is for our team to make state playoffs and go far in them. He’s excited to try to exceed expectations the team has and have a memorable last year.
Try to come out this year and cheer on your fellow Knights, as they try to push for one of their best seasons yet!. The season runs from mid-October to late-February and the games are at several different locations.
