What classes count for Global Studies?
All the coursework that counts always, sometimes or never in the Global Studies Academy can be found here. Essentially, all the coures in the Fine or Performing Arts beyond the first required credit, any Physical Education course beyond the first required credit, anything that is a third, fourth, fifth or sixth credit in World Language, the Social Studies electives courses (including AP Human Geography, AP Psychology, Global Issues, Student Leadership and the *many* additional courses offered), English electives (such as Yearbook or Creative Writing) and Child Development when not used as a Program of Study for graduation. NOTE: Dual Enrollment courses, regardless of topic, do not count for Global Studies
What is the Capstone Requirement?
The Capstone should be an experience that provides an opportunity to apply your learning in a Global Studies course, an approved internship or a district (MCPS) organized performance or presentation honors group (like All County Dance, All County Band, All County Orchestra or selection in an All County Fine Arts display). For more information, see the Capstone page.
Is it possible to be a dual completer (i.e. do AOIT and Global Studies or Engineering and Global Studies or BioScience and Global Studies)?
Yes! It involves some careful planning made easier if you happen to come into high school with any credits from middle school, but it is definitely possible.Â
Are Global Issues and Student Leadership required?
While they are encouraged and wonderful courses, they are not required.
