The Library opens at 8:45 am and closes at 3:20 pm. Open book circulation hours are from 8:45 - 11:30 am every day. Individual students may visit the library during this time with a pass from their teacher.
All students visit the library with their class for a scheduled library lesson and/or book checkout as part of their Specials Rotation. Lessons center on topics such as how to find suitable books, how to use the online catalog and other online resources, digital citizenship, research skills and more. Classroom teachers may reserve additional time for their students in the library for assistance with specific research projects or topical book selection.
Students in Grades 1 - 5 who consistently demonstrate that they are able to take good care of library books and return them in a timely fashion are permitted to check out their preferred number of books. Students in PreK and Kindergarten follow a graduated book checkout process to learn how to be a responsible library patron.
Our primary focus is teaching students to be responsible for their borrowed books by taking good care of them and returning them on time. Sometimes, despite best efforts, library books get damaged or lost.
DAMAGED BOOKS: We ask that students return damaged books to the library (regardless of condition) and their account will be cleared. Please DO NOT try to fix a damaged library book.
LOST BOOKS: If a student loses a book, we have a conversation to consider the impact on the community and discuss actions to remedy the loss. We want all students to share ownership of the library so they feel invested in helping to make it a great place.
One of the primary missions of the library program is to instill a love of reading. We encourage students to select books that are just right for them based on their interests and reading levels. However, we don't want to discourage a student from checking out a book that they are interested in but cannot yet read. If you have any concerns about the books that your child is checking out of the library, you can always contact the library staff.
