Your child will be enrolled in the following 6 required courses:
Magnet Courses:
• Magnet Pre-Algebra
A course containing a mix of 7th and 8th standards combined with additional enrichment topics that prepares students to take Magnet Algebra in 7th grade.
A small number of students have already taken IM, or even Algebra, in grade 5. They will be scheduled for appropriate upper level math courses.
• Magnet Science 6
A more enriched and rigorous version of Science 6 which develops understanding of 5 major concepts of Earth Science that includes the Earth's surface systems, weather and climate, the Earth's Interior systems, history of the Earth, natural resources, and human impacts.
• Magnet Computer Science 6
Introduction to computing including a history of computing, binary and hexadecimal numbers, HTML, CSS, and JavaScript.
Other Courses:
• Advanced English 6
• Historical Inquiries into Global Humanities 6
• Physical Education 6/Health 6

Unfortunately, there are no more summer orientations or tours available; however, students will still be able to visit the school and their teachers as well as try out their bus routes on Transition Day which is August 25th.
Parents can sign up for a virtual orientation session on Tuesday, July 22nd at 6pm.

The next step in the process is to rank your preferences for your full year elective for sixth grade.
All students will have one period in their schedule for an elective. All 6th grade electives are full-year courses and one choice is a 6th grade Rotation which is 4 quarter classes.
So the one period can be filled in two ways: One Electives Rotation or One Year Long Class
Start by taking a look at sixth grade electives in our course bulletin:

Once you and your child have ranked their preferences for the electives they would like to take, complete the google form below to let us know. While we try our best to honor all elective requests, we cannot promise that a student will always get their choice.

We also ask that you take a few minutes to complete this form for our optional Magnet Family Directory. It includes a brief survey so we can get to know you better. In May or June, we will give access to the directory to all participating families, organized by High School Cluster, so you have a chance to contact other magnet families in your area.
