6th Graders will be traveling to the Smithsonian National Museum of American History and National Museum of Natural History on Thursday, October 12,2023. This will be an inquiry-based field trip centered around celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month as well as curricular ties to the Global Humanities 6 and Science 6 curricula.
While at the National Museum of American History, students will visit the new Molina Family Latino Gallery. This is the first gallery created by the Smithsonian that will become part of the Smithsonian’s National Museum of the American Latino. Students will have the opportunity to examine American history through the lens of LatinX families with a focus on identity. In touring the National Museum of Natural History, students will survey three exhibits: Eternal Life in Ancient Egypt, African Voices, and the Janet Annenberg Hooker Hall of Geology, Gems, and Minerals. These selected exhibits present connections to the students’ science and global humanities curricula this year and offer students the opportunity to investigate topics on a more extensive level.
6th graders will drop off their permission slips in the cafeteria in the morning. Collection of permission slips will begin September 21 and will continue through October 5, 2023.
